10 // MOUNDS VIEW (NR) ?

The Mustangs started the year in the top 10 and rose as high as no. 2 before falling out of the rankings. That might have been a premature decision. Mounds View came through one of the toughest sections in the state and then lost to Minnetonka in the first round on a walk-off.

9 // NEW PRAGUE TROJANS (NR) ?

The 3A state champion Trojans were an effective team. They won the Metro West conference and then reached the state title game courtesy of a walk-off double by Jake Hemann. New Prague collected the title thanks to some solid play – specifically by infielder Nolan Eischens who drove in three of the Trojans’ five runs.

8 // ESKO ESKOMOS (Bubble) ?

Esko flirted with the top 10 list after they ran through competition in northern Minnesota. Their one loss came in the second game of a double-dip to Wadena-Deer Creek. The eventual 2A state champions have an unbelievable amount of depth for the small school. They graduate stud two-way Cale Haugen but this roster is loaded with underclassmen who should be fully capable of defending that title.

7 // WAYZATA TROJANS (2) ?

The Trojans were denied a state berth by Edina. It was nonetheless a strong season for Wayzata with a lot of talent returning in 2024.

6 // ANOKA TORNADOES (9) ?

The Tornadoes lost to Edina in extra innings in the quarterfinals. Anoka’s lineup featured some of the better hitters in the tournament (Illinois commit Reagan Reeder has a very advanced hit tool) but they failed to shut the door after holding the lead into the bottom of the 7th.

5 // CRETIN DERHAM HALL RAIDERS (1) ?

The Raiders spent 6 out of the 8 weeks atop the rankings. They ran into the hot hat of East Ridge in section play. It was a very strong season for CDH, to be sure.

4 // EDINA HORNETS (Bubble) ?

Edina came through sections through the losers bracket and by beating Wayzata twice to advance. They took their first game in state from Anoka in a thrilling come-from-behind win that featured a game-tying, 2-out home run by Caden Morgan in the bottom of the 7th. They would later win in walk-off fashion in extra innings. A catastrophic 6th inning against Rosemount in the semifinals would end their championship run but the season overall was undoubtedly positive for the Hornets.

3 // MINNETONKA SKIPPERS (6) ?

The Skippers played fundamentally solid baseball throughout section play and most of state. They walked-off Mounds View in the quarterfinals but lost to the eventual champions East Ridge, 4-3.

2 // ROSEMOUNT IRISH (10) ?

A solid run for the collection of Irish seniors. They had a team full of depth that rolled through state but were upended by East Ridge in a well-played 1-0 ball game.

1 // EAST RIDGE RAPTORS (3) ?

East Ridge was our preseason no. 1 ranked team. While the regular season was not spectacular, once the playoff began the Raptors locked it in. In state, Max Arlich threw two games and led East Ridge to their second title with a 1-0 victory over Rosemount.
