2023 PBR KC JUCO Showcase: Takeaways, Pitchers

By PBR JUCO Staff

On Sept. 15, the PBR JUCO staff traveled to Kansas City for the second annual PBR KC JUCO Showcase held at the Creekside Complex in Parkville, Mo. In all, there were 18 of the best JUCO programs from the area that met at this event to play in two fall exhibitions in front of our PBR JUCO staff as well as a fleet of four-year recruiting coordinators, as well as some members of the pro scouting community.

Today, we’re publishing some of the standouts from this exciting day trip, with reports on 25 prospects noted below.

TAKEAWAYS: PITCHERS

The following players are listed in alphabetical order.

Ryan Borberg, RHP, Johnson County CC: The first pitcher I saw at Friday’s event, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Illinois State transfer was also the top prospect from my looks. He’s an athletic mover down the mound with low effort from a high three-quarter release point. The right-hander’s fastball touched 94 with most in the 92-93 range. It was a bit straight with spin rates into the 2400s. He killed spin (1450-1600 rpm) on his 86-87 mph changeup delivered with identical arm speed to that of his fastball. Borberg also froze a few hitters with a near average slurve at 79-81 with good depth and spin into the 2600s. Overall, he showed feel for three pitches and was around the strike zone.
