2024 MLB Draft: March's Mock Draft

By Draft HQ Staff

Prep Baseball’s Draft HQ last published a mock draft in December, following MLB’s second annual draft lottery. Fast-forward to today, and there’s been quite a bit of shifting in this predictive snapshot of the first round.

Unlike the 2023 MLB Draft, the very top of this year’s board is much cloudier, with room for players and teams to cut deals to save bonus money for later, etc. With that said, there’s still some familiarity at the top of the first between this mock draft and December’s. We have the Cleveland Guardians taking someone new with the first overall pick, but we still foresee the talented two-way player from Florida, Jac Caglianone, vying for one of the first few picks. Otherwise, the top-10 doesn’t retain all that many similarities, underscoring the status of this class, as it’s without the kind of impact at the very top that would crash MLB top-100 lists right away – at least not as hastily as the Skenes-Crews-Langford trio has.

Expect the top-10 – even the top-5 – to fluctuate greatly this spring, though what this class might lack in punch it makes up for in its depth.

Stay up-to-date on the 2024 MLB Draft by following our visits coast to coast on Draft HQ; here are some of our latest headlines:

+ Seifert’s College Crosscheck: Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3
+ 2024 Super 60 Pro Showcase: 11 Impact Bats | 9 Arms to Know
+ Shooter’s ‘On The Hunt’ series: Spring Break in Texas | Early Georgia Takeaways | Florida’s perennial Preseason Classic

The movement on this updated mock reflects some of college baseball’s hottest starts, like Georgia’s Charlie Condon, who connected on home run No. 13 already on Tuesday against Iowa; Hagen Smith, who stumbled in his first start for Arkansas only to punch out 28 batters in his 16 innings pitched since; and Chase Burns, who steals the internet’s spotlight each time he takes the ball for Wake Forest.

On the prep side, we’ve long been enamored with the ceiling Bryce Rainer (Harvard-Westlake HS, CA; Texas commit) possesses, and we have him as the first high school product selected in July – and he too warrants mentioning as one of the prospects on this list who’s gathered buzz halfway through March.

We’ll share some more prospect insight in tomorrow’s Draft HQ Top-200 update, which will help highlight the quality of talent beginning to accumulate in the back of the first round that should trickle down further into rounds two, three, and beyond.

For now, here’s how we foresee the 2024 Draft shaking it, were the Guardians on the clock today.
