2024 Overall Rankings Update: Fall Helium

Today, Prep Baseball is releasing its updated Class of 2024 overall rankings following the increasingly important fall season. This time of year gives us one last look at the nation’s best prep players and allows us to assemble and organize our follow lists over the offseason in order to strategically map out where we’ll be when spring seasons open up, starting in mid-February.

Within this piece, Prep Baseball’s VP of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, has provided his analysis on the biggest takeaways from this past fall as we come to understand who the top prep right-hander is among the many serious candidates, how Texas’ seniors are shaping up, as well as some hidden gems who popped in their final outings of 2023.

THE TOP PREP RIGHT-HANDER?

More than any other class in recent memory, this one has the most unsettled group of pitching prospects. Most years, a select few head into the spring as anointed first round picks, but this one feels different, and there is sure to be buzz from a plethora of arms from coast to coast over the next eight months. In saying that, a trio of right-handers will head into the new year at the head of the table. Prep arms No. 9-ranked Levi Sterling (Notre Dame HS, CA), No. 10 Ryan Sloan (York HS, IL), and No. 11 William Schmidt (Catholic HS, LA) are aligned in presenting strong cases to become the top right-hander in the class. Sterling, one of the youngest players in the class, made it look easy all summer before finishing up with a residency on Team USA.
