Southeast Guilford - 5 South Brunswick - 1

Round one of the 3A NCHSAA State Playoffs featured many exciting games across the state. Southeast Guilford traveled to South Brunswick on Tuesday Night. The Falcons jumped out early with a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. The Cougars failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities throughout the remainder of game play despite outhitting Southeast 4-2.

Trevor Souther (Southeast Guilford) and Aubrey Smith (South Brunswick) both had strong outings with 7 strikeouts each. But, the late offense from the Falcons, scoring 3 runs in the top of the seventh off an error, was too much for the Cougars to come back from.

The Falcons got things started in the second inning when Luke Harrington hit an RBI groundout that turned into a double play. Myles Odom managed to score on a passed ball giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Hoping to come back in the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars plated one on Will Lamiman’s single to right field, scoring Mannix Crawford and bringing them within one. However, Southeast Guilford scored three runs in the seventh inning on an error on a ball put in play by Dalton Fryar and Bayne Welborn. The Cougars were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Falcons the 5-1 victory.
