New Trier 5, Evanston 0

CHICAGO, IL - The New Trier Trevians defeated their Central Suburban League divisional rival, the Evanston Wildkits for a third, and final time this season by a score of 5-0; knocking the Wildkits out of the IHSA Playoffs in sectional semi-final action on Wednesday afternoon at Kerry Wood Cubs Field.

In a game that featured only four total hits, it was the Trevians starting pitcher right-hander Thomas Nugent who shined. Nugent tossed a complete game one-hit shutout, striking out six, walking one and hitting two batters. Evanston’s (14-8) Jake Urdangen broke up Nugent’s no-hit bid with two outs in the top of the seventh, singling through the gap in the left side of the infield.

New Trier (27-4) took the lead in the third inning thanks to a two-run opposite-field home run by right fielder Matt Kann. The Trevians tacked on three more runs to take a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly and a two-run line drive single to center field by Sean Douaire.

Kann finished 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Douaire recorded the Trevians only other hit, going 1-2 on the day with 2 RBIs.

New Trier will take on Fenwick at 10 am on Saturday in the Sectional Final.
