Scout Blog from Mountain Vista vs Regis Game on 4/30.

Nick Leonard, RHP, Mountain Vista HS (2014 Washington State Commit)
This Week we got another look at the athletic right-hander as he pitched against #1 Ranked Regis. Nick is 6-foot-3, 185 pound body frame, and he's headed to Washington State on scholarship this fall. Throws with a clean arm action coming from an upper ¾ arm slot, close to being more over the top, with above average arm-speed. Fastball had decent movement into right handed batters and consistently sat at 88-89 mph throughout his seven innings of work and topping out at 92mph on multiple occasions. Throws a 12-6 curveball that showed a nice break clocking in at 74-75mph, but did leave it hanging on a few batters that resulted in hits. Used his change-up effectively, at 81-82 mph, displaying good deception.  He had solid command and spotting with his full arsenal of pitches.  Also showed excellent foot speed on a few picks to first base. Leonard would throw a complete game allowing 2 runs, 6 hits, and had 5 k's and 1 walk against a lineup loaded with D-1 College talent.

David Peterson Regis Jesuit HS (2014 Oregon Commit)
Peterson is closing games still coming back from a broken leg. He dominated 2 innings pitched giving up only 1 hit on zero runs. He faced a total of 7 batters in the  2 innings pitched, striking out 3 and had one walk. Peterson entered the game in the 6th inning and looked dominate.  The tall 6-foot-6, 230-pound lefty threw his 4 seam fastball consistently around 88-89mph, topping out at 90, and had pinpoint control. We could expect his velocity to increase has he continues to get back into pitching shape.

Max George Regis Jesuit HS (Oregon State Commit)
Max is a compact athletic kid at 5-10. Moves well laterally at ss. Could project as 2b in College. Very fast runner with great ability to go first to third on all base hits to outfield. Gap to gap power with good bat speed. Does not get cheated. Good discipline at plate. In very tough cross-wind was made all 6 plays hit to him at shortstop. Max George went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple.

Brent Schwarz Regis Jesuit HS (2015 Rice Commit)

6-3 RHP. Lives in the low 80's, with big frame. Has a lot more room to grow. Pretty effortless 3/4 arm slot to the plate and can throw all three pitches for a strike anytime in the count. Schwarz faced 18 batters in 5 innings pitched.  Allowed 4 hits and zero runs, striking out 4 batters on zero base on balls. When he fills out can project into the mid to upper 80's. As a hitter he looks very athletic. Good bat speed and strong lower half. Bat stays in the zone through swing.

*In the Mountain Vista-Regis game Schwarz, Peterson and Mountain Vista’s Leonard who notched another complete game, combined for 13 shutout innings
