We are extremely pleased to announce Adam Akin as the Prep Baseball Report Tennessee Director of Scouting. Akin is an excellent addition to the Prep Baseball Report team, and his work ethic and evaluation skills are top notch.

An Evansville, Indiana native, Akin began his collegiate playing career at Rend Lake CC, starting all 52 games and posting a .311 batting average.

After one season at Rend Lake, he transferred to University of Indianapolis, where he completed a stellar three-year playing career as a middle infielder, finishing ranked in the top 10 in school history in eight offensive categories and posting a career .319 batting average. He helped lead the Greyhounds to a three-year record of 115-64 that resulted in three Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament trips and two Division II NCAA tournament appearances under head coach Gary Vaught.

Akin began his coaching career as an assistant at Rend Lake in 2011. In 2012, he was hired by Kentucky Wesleyan College where he served as recruiting coordinator and oversaw the development of the program’s hitters and infielders. Akin saw his role grow during his tenure at Kentucky Wesleyan, eventually working with pitchers and catchers in addition to his other duties.

In his first season as an assistant, Kentucky Wesleyan posted the most wins the program had seen in six seasons. In 2014, the Panthers went 31-16 in recording their first 30-win season since 2004. In 2015, the team posted a 32-18 record on its way to leading the Midwest region in batting average, on base percentage, slugging percentage, doubles, and home runs. Akin’s tenure as a Panther assistant culminated this spring when the program shattered the school record for most runs in a season in going 36-17 with a share of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season championship. The 36 wins also set a record for most in school history. In addition, the program’s GPA saw a rise from 2.82 to 3.11 during Akin’s time at Kentucky Wesleyan.

While at Kentucky Wesleyan, Akin coached two NCAA Division II All-Americans, the first two in school history in OF Jordan White and DH Troy Paris.

Akin graduated from Indianapolis with a bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2010. He completed his master’s degree in sports administration from Liberty in 2013. He will reside in Nashville with his wife Samantha.
