All State Games - Underclass Catching Analysis

HENDERSON, NV - The underclass All State Games catching depth captured the eye of onlookers at the first year event. The talent pool of the young backstop will lure next level programs to the Silver Sate fore several years to come, evident by the defensive as well as offensive capabilities. Below we take a closer look at the prowess of those that wear the tools of ignorance.

2022, Canyon Kutch, C (Bishop Gorman) 6-foot 170, Kutch showed an above average skill set at catcher for his age. He has an athletic body with room to grow allowing the 7.22- 60 to get better. He received the ball with soft hands and did extremely well handling the low pitch with his framing. He demonstrated very good mobility and body control, working side to side with loose hips and containing all blocked balls into a small radius. Consistent pop times of 2.05-2.08 were achieved by a compact throwing motion and quick feet while gaining ground toward second base. Offensively, Kutch has a good foundation and approach at the plate. Solid balanced set up, into small leg kick, with good barrel control, Canyon showed ability to drive balls in both gaps. 

2022, Joey Randazzo C, (Bishop Gorman) 5-foot-11 160, Joey looks the part already with a physical, athletic, well-built catchers frame who will also give you a plus bat from the left side. Joey showed good loose lower half when asked to block being able to move effectively and show his mobility. Joey showed ability to handle the majority of pitches with good strength in forearm to stick pitches. A little stiff at times on ball down and away, He is more than a capable receiver. Compact Arm action with a quick release and quality foot work allowed Kaden 2.01-2.18 pop time.  Offensively, Joey showed a plus bat with wood. Good balanced set up into an aggressive stride, Randazzo possesses a strong leverage swing that will hit with power. First AB was a triple to right field and Joey showed his athleticism and 6.9- 60 speed running the bases very well. 

2022, Kaden Schuck, C (Reno) 5-foot-10 155, Kaden has above average catching skills for his age. He has a good set up and wide base allowing freedom to receive well. Showed quiet hands letting the ball travel to him with a good framed presentation. Kaden looks to have good arm strength with a quick release and good feet. Separating out front created a consistent pop time of 2.08-2.15. Blocking ability showed good loose hips that allowed good mobility side to side. Offensively, Kaden has a nice compact swing with natural lift. Narrow base into open to close stride, Kaden has bat speed and strength in his bat. Good line drive, alley to alley approach. 

2023, Victor Tristian Montecerin,  C (Bishop Gorman) 5-foot-10 135. Victor has solid throwing arm action along with active feet. He will need to add strength and quickness to improve upon his will need to improve his 2.22-2.39 pop time. Victor receives with a high set up and looks to have adequate receiving and blocking skills. Offensively, Victor has a good set up with high hands and rhythm into a load/stride. 

2022, Dallin Smith, C (Coronado) 5-foot-11 150. Smith is a good looking, left hand hitting catcher. He has a good slender build that projects well. Dallin looked to have a nice fundamental skill set. He displayed a nice proficiency in his receiving with soft hands and good presentation. Dallin displayed suitable blocking techniques that allowed him to sink hips and move well side to side especially given his wiry build. Dallin showed good feet with an accurate arm capturing a solid 2.01 pop time. Offensively, Smith has a good set up at the plate with a nice, classic left handed swing. Future ability looks like Dallin could be a commodity left hand hitting catcher.
