Announcement: NC Preseason All-State Showcase - JAN 28th

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The premier winter scouting event in North Carolina is back this year.  The Preseason All-State Showcase will run on January 28th in Pineville, NC at the On Deck Academy.

Last year’s inaugural event saw 75 of the top players from across North Carolina run through an extended pro-style workout allowing PBR to post their verified statistics, a full evaluation, and video for college coaches and pro scouts to view.  38 of the 75 in attendance have now committed the school of their choice.  The event drew professional scouts, DII, DIII, and JUCO coaches, along with several professional advisors.  DI coaches are not allowed to attend due to NCAA rules and their Quiet Period, but with PBR’s trusted staff, the verified stats, and the video, many coaches were able to add to their follow lists and prepare to see players in the upcoming spring.

The pitchers in attendance went through a full warm-up, allowing them to stretch their arms outside, prior to throwing the controlled bullpen in the indoor setting.  The bullpen consisted of plenty of time to warm up prior to throwing live in front of the coaches and scouts in attendance.  PBR gathered information on velocity while evaluating command, stuff, and the delivery.  While it is understood that pitchers may not be peaking in late January, several arms really impressed in the outing.

Inside the Numbers – 2017 Preseason All-State Pitchers
+ 2018 RHP Brett Kerry topped at 88.  South Carolina commit
+ Ethan Haislip (2019, RHP) & Luke Little (2018, LHP) each touched 87.  Both are committed.
+ 4 Underclass arms earned invites to the PBR Future Games in August
+ 15 Pitchers have committed since the December event

Position players will run through a variety of testing, allowing coaches to get a feel for speed, power, athleticism, as well as defensive and offensive performance.  Each position player will run through a defensive workout, allowing PBR and the coaches and scouts in attendance to verify arm strength and get a feel for their actions.  Offensively, hitters will hit in a variety of indoor situations, allowing PBR to evaluate the swing, ball to barrel ability, carry, and power.

Inside the Numbers – 2017 Preseason All-State Position Players
+ 5 hitters flashed an exit velocity of 90 mph or better
+ 2018 OF, RHP Jason Hudak and 2019 INF Trey Donathan led positional velocities at 90 & 85 mph respectively

+ 9 players ran a 4.00 or better in a timed 30
