Catholic League Crossovers

No. 1 St. Laurence (10-0; 1-0 Blue) smashed St. Ignatius 11-3 behind Viking sophomore Brad Wood. Following in his older brothers, Dan and Kyle’s, footsteps, Wood continued his torrid hitting with a 4-for-4 day. Wood drove home three runs along with fellow classmate sophomore Mike Kornacker, who also plated three Viking runs as well.

UAB-bound Nick Altobella (1-0) picked up his first victory on the mound for the Vikings.

No. 2 Mount Carmel (11-0; 1-0 Blue) knocked Fenwick (7-1; 1-1 White) from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 4-3 win at Haggerty Field on Monday. Caravan senior RHP T.J. Laurish (5-0) went the distance for the Caravan. Caravan junior SS Jerry Houston chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI.

Fenwick will host No. 1 St. Laurence in River Forest on Wednesday. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in River Forest for all of the action.

No. 7 Providence (7-2; 1-0 Blue) rolled past Bishop McNamara 8-4. Senior RF Kenny King continued his hot-hitting with a pair of hits and two RBI. Celtic senior Dan Whitehead chipped in with a pair of RBI for Providence. Bradley-bound LHP Brady Wilkin (1-0) picked up the win for the Celtics.

Brother Rice (6-2; 1-0 Blue) defeated St. Joseph 6-2 behind Crusader senior Dom Albanese. Albanese had the big hit for the Crusaders when he drove home two with a triple.

Gordon Tech (10-1; 3-0 White) whipped Loyola 6-1 behind Ram senior Dakota Pisarek (4-0). Pisarek fired a two-hitter and struck out 11 Rambler hitters, Pisarek also was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

De La Salle (7-4; 3-0 White) defeated St. Rita 3-1 on Monday. SIU-bound RHP Anthony Shimkus went the distance and struck out six for the CCL White co-leaders. St. Rita falls to (4-4; 0-1 Blue)

South Suburban Blue

Bremen (9-5; 1-0) smashed Hillcrest 13-2 in five innings. Brave junior Chamari Warner hammered a solo shot and plated two runs for Bremen.

South Suburban Red

Reavis (4-6; 2-0) slipped past Argo 6-4 to grab the early lead in the SSC-Red.

Ram junior 3B Mike Lally and sophomore LF Joe O’Hara each plated a pair of runs on Monday.

Oak Lawn (5-4) smashed Shepard 11-2 on Monday. Spartan junior RHP Bobby Kametas (2-0) was lights-out for the Spartans. Kametas fired a five-hitter at the Astros and fanned 11.  Spartan senior 3B Mike Yacko was on base four times with double, triple, HBP

and a walk and scored three Spartan runs.  Spartan senior Nick Mozwecz was a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

S. Illinois River-River -Ohio

Benton (10-1; 1-0) received a scare from Herrin (6-7; 0-1) in the Rangers’ S.I. River-River-Ohio opener, winning 7-5 on Monday. The Rangers brought out the long-ball at Herrin as Ty Leffller (9th), Jared Johnson and Ethan Hughes all went deep for the Rangers. For Johnson and Hughes the pair hit their first dingers of the season.

Leffler improves to 3-1 with a solid five and a third inning performance on the mound and freshman Dakota Head nailed down the save with 1 2/3 innings of spotless relief.

Suburban Christian Blue

Marmion (4-4; 1-0) blanked Chicago Christian 5-0 behind senior Shane Cano. Cano allowed just three hits in his six scoreless innings on Monday Cano fanned nine Knight hitters in his masterpiece. Chicago Christian falls to (10-3 0-1).

Nonconference

No. 3 New Trier (4-0) blasted Notre Dame 13-3 behind senior LHP Nick Hedge (2-0). Hedge fired a two-hitter at the Dons with seven strikeouts. Trevian senior Cristian Carr had a perfect 3-for-3 day with three RBI.

Naperville Central (4-3) sent No. 10 Joliet Catholic Academy (4-3) to the Hilltoppers third consecutive loss in a row defeating the Hilltoppers 4-2 on Monday.

Nazareth Academy (9-0) beat Lincoln Park 6-1 behind senior Eddie Gengo (4-0). Gengo was dominant on Monday as he fired a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts against LP. Genko’s battery-mate junior C Mike Stromberg tripled home a couple of runs to help make a winner out of Genko.

No.19 Marist (7-2) blanked Sandburg 6-0 behind senior RHP John McKevitt (1-1). McKevitt fired a three-hit shutout at Sandburg (3-2-1). Since losing to Simeon the Redhawks have blanked Richards, St. Rita and now Sandburg in succession.

Redhawk senior SS Ryan Meyer went deep with a man aboard in the fifth to give the Redhawks a 4-0 lead. Senior RF Jim Carroll had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with an RBI.

No. 25 Bloomington (10-2) outslugged Pontiac 9-8 on Monday. Purple Raider junior Davin Biggs tied the game at 8-8 with a huge two-run double in the top of the seventh. Biggs stole home for the game-winner on the old walk-off play with runners on first and third. Junior Jayden Thompson (2-1) picked up the Raider win in relief and junior Roman Valentine picked up his first save of 2012, when he slammed the door on the Indians in the bottom of the seventh.

Danville (7-4) defeated Tolono Unity 7-2 on Monday for the Vikings’ third straight win. Michael Vascura (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Vikings. Cash Kiser finished up the game on the mound for the Vikes and drove home a pair of runs to lead the attack. Tolono Unity falls to 8-2.

Champaign Centennial (9-1) defeated Stanford Olympia 5-2 behind Charger senior Josh Manolakis (3-0). Manolakis struck out five in his complete-game performance on Monday. The two runs he allowed were unearned. Charger senior Cully Wilson had two hits and two RBI for CC.

McHenry (6-4) blanked Machesney Park Harlem 2-0 on Monday. Warrior junior Nick Svoboda fired a three-hit shutout at the Huskies with four strikeouts. Warrior senior 3B Jamie Rammel had a single and plated one of the two Warrior runs. Senior 2B Kyle Clark had a perfect 2-for-2 day for McHenry. Sophomore C Cody Freund had a big double for The Warriors.  Machesney Park Harlem falls to 6-2.

Fremd (6-2) won for the sixth straight time, defeating Crystal Lake Central 6-2 on Monday behind Viking Jason English. English fired a three-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Vikings past the Tigers on Monday

Lake Zurich (8-2) defeated Cary-Grove 8-5 on Monday. The Bears were led by their left-handed hitting C Anthony Drago. Drago had a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Bear junior Joey Pizzolato chipped in with a pair of RBI for the Bears.

Herscher (10-3) outslugged Momence 12-6 behing junior Austin Mandel, who had nine strikeouts in his five quality innings on the mound for the Tigers.

Hersey (6-0) slipped past Stevenson 2-1 in 11 electric innings on Monday. 11th. Senior Trevor Haas and Junior Aaron DeGeorge (1-0) allowed one run and four hits to Stevenson (3-2).

Moline (6-3) defeated Normal Community 3-1 behind a complete-game gem

from Maroon senior RHP Tim Wages. Wages struck out three Ironmen hitters.

Rolling Meadows (4-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead on Maine South (4-3) and survived a Hawk comeback to win 8-6. Mustang senior Eric Lowe led the Meadows attack with three hits and three RBI. Mustang junior C Matt Dolan chipped in with a pair of hits and RBI.

Glenbrook North (5-4) destroyed Prospect 11-0 in five innings behind Bradley-bound RHP Peter Resnick (3-1). Resnick fired a one-hitter with seven strikeouts at the Knights. Spartan Mason Rowland and Sing Fong each hhad two hits and two RBI for GBN. Prospect falls to 2-6.

Chicago Agricultural Science (6-4-1) blanked Longwood Academy 11-0 behind Cyclone Charlie Ward. Ward struck out four in his complete-game whitewash of Longwood. Kevin Stonewall and Mike Cassidy each plated a pair of runs for the Cyclones.

Schaumburg (6-4) blanked Bartlett 9-0 behind 6-foot junior Max Paolicchi. who allowed two hits through the first five innings to get the win. Senior Jordan Grubb doubled with the sacks full for the big blow for the Saxons. Sophomore Jack Holden chipped in with two his and two RBI.
