PBR Arizona has been hosting events, scouting games, and gathering info from coaches as we approached this day so we could guarantee you our best effort while covering the high school season. Each week, the P25 rankings will be updated, along with: team notes, and Game of the Week coverage.

If you have any info worth sharing, please keep PBR Arizona Staff updated with video/comments. The more information we can collect from different sources the better. We are always open to your opinions and appreciate any feedback.

Team Notes

With Spring Break wrapped up, and a ton of baseball played over the last two weeks in tournament and conference play, we've gotten a great look at a number of teams now. Each week that goes by we are learning more about each program, and how the season seems to be shaking up. There were plenty of tests thrown teams way during the Boras Classic, Best of the West tournament, and Coach Bob tournament. Some of the best talent in the southwest was in the valley over the last two weeks, and some teams made a statement. The Hamilton Huskies remain the clear #1 in the state. Canyon View and Nogales remain unbeaten. Brophy takes two from Basha on back to back days. And tons of other action all over the Grand Canyon State. With a great week ahead of us, with some more BIG matchups, we've adjusted the top 25 and added some teams to the bubble list.

#3 Horizon (14-2)

It's no shocker that Horizon has cracked the top 3 in our 4th rankings update, and with transfer RHP Jacob Anderson now eligible to play, this just makes the Huskies even stronger. We knew this team would have one of the most high powered offenses in the state, and a #1 arm in LHP Grant Richardson. But with the addition of Anderson, they now have a very good #2 arm, which will allow them to stretch out their pen a bit in longer weeks or in a playoff run. This is an order that can hurt you from top to bottom, with Sr Kade Huff leading the team in hitting (.490), and Sr Dom Chacon in the 2-hole with 10 home runs, they have shown many different ways to beat you. This is not a group you want to run into, especially when their offense is clicking on all cylinders like it has been. They played a front loaded schedule this spring with only 6 games remaining. In those 6 games they will have to go through: Desert Mountain, Paradise Valley, and Cactus Shadows to collect the remaining W's they're looking for. Horizon currently sits as the #1 ranked 5A school in the state.

Runs Scored: 176

Runs Allowed: 58

#6 Nogales (12-0)

Nogales is off to a perfect start thus far in the 2022 spring season, as they are scoring runs, and limiting opposing offenses just about as good as you could do it. Through 12 games Nogales has only allowed 14 runs, that's just 1.16 runs/game on average, and a number like that can almost guarantee to get you a win every time you take the field. This is one of the top pitching staffs in the state, made up by: Sr Roman Bracamonte, Sr Saul Soto, Sr Santiago DiBene, So Sal Valenzuela, Jr Luis Romero, and So Derek Montijo. Those are very serviceable arms and more than enough to make a post season push. Although Nogales remains perfect, they have their biggest week yet in front of them with matchups against Tucson and Cienega. These two games are certainly ones that they have had circled on the calendar for some time now, and PBR AZ staff will be in attendance for Monday's matchup vs Tucson for PBR AZ's Game of the Week.

Runs Scored: 96

Runs Allowed: 14

#13 Sandra Day O'Connor (10-4)

Sandra Day O'Connor is climbing their way back up the rankings, as they started the year at #9 and dropped as far down as #20. But in this update, they're back in the #13 spot, with a very good chance to be back towards the top when it's all said and done. This group did not get off to the start they had imagined, taking losses from Bophy, Perry, and Hamilton in the first two weeks, but seems they have found a groove winning 7 of their last 8. In those 8 games, O'Connor has topped Basha, and rivals from down the street Liberty. Following their 2 games against Boulder Creek this week, they have some stiff competition in front of them, with games against multiple ranked teams. O'Connor is a talented team that has come out on top of these types of games many times before, and we expect them to do the same here this year.

Runs Scored: 95

Runs Allowed: 60

NR Brophy (9-7)

The Brophy Broncos have begun to turn their season around. They did not get off to the start they had hoped for, but their youth is starting to get comfortable, and this team is really starting to play together. They took two huge victories over Basha this past week, one win led by a stellar starting pitching performance from James DeCremer, and the second victory coming via walk-off home run off the bat of Anthony Diaz. Those were two emotional wins for Brophy to come out on the right side of with the meat of their schedule in front of them. Of Brophy's 8 games remaining on their schedule, they will have to go through 7 P25 ranked teams. They've shown talent and heart of late, and we'll get to see if the Broncos can keep it rolling to finish the season.

Runs Scored: 89

Runs Allowed: 86

NR St. Mary's (10-6)

Saint Mary's is putting what has the looks of a winning season in 2022, and they're doing it on the back of David Galindo and Alonzo Contreras. Galindo has been absolutely lights out for them on the mound, winning 4 games thus far, including a 5 inning (run rule) perfect game performance during the Coach Bob tournament. Galindo has been sitting in the mid 80s with plus command of 3 pitches and a 'go right at you' mentality on the mound. Galindo has also been a lead run producer for his team, driving in 21 runs in 2022 and hitting 2 home runs. Contreras is hitting an eye popping .740 in 50 at bats, driving in 25 runs, scoring 22 runs, and collecting extra base hits with 15 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 home runs. St Mary's hasn't faired well against the higher competition this year, but when Galindo is on the mound, this team can steal one from just about anybody.

Runs Scored: 141

Runs Allowed: 92
