By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The early signing period, has been exciting with 45 players making their college commitments official. After the dust has settled, I would like to step back and look at the top players that are available in the 2017 class at each position. Today we will look at right-handed pitchers.

Jacob Williams, RHP Bentonville HS
Williams is a 6-foot, 170-pound right-hander with a medium frame and an athletic build. He works from a H3/4 arm slot with a short quick arm. He repeats his mechanics consistently with a distinct balance point and a tall finish. His fastball works 84-86 up to 88 mph. He compliments his fastball with a 12/6 curveball with late action and depth. The curveball is thrown 72-75 mph with depth. Overall Williams is solid right hander with a short quick arm and an advanced feel for the breaking ball.

Jackson Sloan, RHP, Fayetteville HS
Sloan is a 6-foot-3 185-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. His fastball works 85-87 mph working up to 88 mph. He compliments his fastball with a 12/6 curveball thrown 73-74 mph with early break. He also throws a change up 78-79 mph with near fastball arm speed. Mechanically he uses a up tempo rhythm and late hand separation. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. His delivery is repeated with some effort, and a tall finish. Overall Sloan is a projectable right-hander with a quick arm and a feel for secondary pitches, lacks consistent command.

Noah Fowler, RHP, Catholic HS
Fowler is 6-foot 195-pounds with a large frame and an average build. His fastball works 82-85 mph, his curveball is 71-73 mph and his changeup is thrown 72-74 mph. He shows the ability to locate all three pitches for strikes. The curveball has 11/5 shape with early break. The change up is thrown with fastball arm speed and has arm side run. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. He repeats his simple delivery with minimum effort and a tall finish. Overall Fowler has advanced pitch-ability.

Drew Mullins, RHP, Greene County Tech HS
Mullins is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with an easy arm action. He repeats his simple delivery with a distinct balance point and choppy rhythm. He finishes closed to the arm side. His fastball works 82-84 mph with slight sink. He commands a curveball thrown 69-72 mph with 11/5 shape and early action. He also throws a change up 74-75 mph. Overall Mullins is a projectable right-hander with a feel to pitch, he will benefit from adding strength.

Cole Morgan, RHP Stuttgart HS
Morgan is a 5-foot-11 155-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and build. Morgan competes in the strike zone with three quality high school pitches. His fastball works 80-82 mph, his curveball is thrown 68-70 mph with 11/5 shape and late break and his changeup is thrown 70-72 mph with arm side run. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slot with a short arm action with normal arm speed. He is able to locate consistently due to his ability to repeat his simple delivery and normal rhythm. Overall Morgan has and advanced feel to pitch and has had consistent success getting hitters out.
