Arkansas Insider: Unsigned Seniors 4.3.16

A look at 5 unsigned seniors that have the ability to compete on a college roster.

 

LHP Hunter Brantley, Junction City HS
Brantley is a 5-foot-10 180-pound left-hander with an athletic build and frame. He pitches from a high ¾ arm slot with an average arm with a slap wrap in the back. He has repeatable mechanics and has a feel for the strike zone. He located his fastball in bottom of the strike zone at 79-81 mph with late run. He complimented his fastball with a 1/7 curveball with depth at 66-67 mph. Overall Brantley is a quality left-hander with pitch ability that is uncommitted.

OF Jared Dawson, Dardnelle HS
Dawson is a 6-foot-2 175-pound with a large frame and an athletic build. Defensively he works through the baseball with fluid footwork and a quick arm action. He throws the ball accurately at 81 mph from the outfield. He runs a 7.25 in the 60. Offensively he starts from a tall stance with a limited load. He attacks the baseball with average bat speed with a line drive swing that keeps the barrel in the hit zone for a long time. He has the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Overall Dawson is a well-rounded player that competes at a high level.

C Dylan Hurt  Bryant HS
Hurt is a  5-foot-10 160-pound catcher with a medium frame and an athletic build. Defensively he is very solid behind the plate. He has solid lateral movement while blocking and maintains proper arm angles while receiving. He throws pop times consistently below 2.0 and as low as 1.87. He does this with a quick exchange and an accurate arm. Offensively he starts with an athletic stance, with a smooth load and attacks the baseball with average bat speed. He has a line drive swing that keeps the barrel in the hit zone for a consistent basis, which allows him to hit the ball to all fields. Overall Hurt is an above average defender with an adequate offensive game. He is a versatile athlete that can play multiple position if needed.

Kyle Lightsey, LHP, Lakeside HS
Lightsey is a 6-foot-1 210-pound left-hander with a large frame and an average build. He had success during the scrimmage portion of the day pitching off his 12/6 curveball with late break. He complimented his curveball with a fastball 75-78 mph touching 80 mph. Mechanically he does a sound job of repeating his mechanics. He would have more velocity if he would incorporate his lower half with more aggression. Overall Lightsey has advanced pitch-ability and a weapon to get hitters out with his breaking ball. He should be able to be used a reliever at the collegiate level.

Luke Price, OF Dover HS
Price is a 6-foot-2 195-pound outfielder with a large frame and a physical build. Price runs a 6.89 in the 60. He is a solid defender playing through the baseball with fluid footwork he has a smooth exchange and an accurate arm with carry. He threw the ball 84 mph from the outfield. Offensively he has elite bat speed with a slight uphill swing. He has a disconnected lower half but still shows the ball to hit for power. Overall Price is a physical player with a high end tools, as he continues to play the game he projects to play at a high level.
