Arkansas' Year in Review: #7 Junction City Wins 8th State Title

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The #7 story of 2014 is the Junction City Dragons winning their 8th state title in school history. The first since 2004. Wining eight state titles moves them into second overall behind Fayetteville that has won ten. This is an impressive feat for a town with the population of less than 600.

Junction City battle their way through the state tournament, beating the defending state champions and their rivals on their way to beating Walnut Ridge in the finals 13-2. They were led by seniors right hander and middle infielder Parker Hammett and middle infielder Zach Doolin. Hammett was selected to all-state and the state tournament MVP after striking out ten in the state championship game. Doolin led the team offensively and was selected to the All-State Tournament team. Both players continued their careers playing at Southern Arkansas University
