Bloodlines: Zurat Brothers

Dan Cevette
President, New York

Our new feature "Bloodlines" takes a deeper look at brothers who have came through the PBR New York system. Today we look at the Zurat brother's; Jake and Cameron. Let's take a look.

Jake Zurat C / 3B / Williamsville North, NY / 2017

The elder Zurat brother, Jake who graduated last spring, was no stranger to the PBR system. A graduate of Williamsville North HS and a product of Full Circuit Athletics, he first started with us back in Dec. of 2015 and has attended six events over the course of his HS career. He always added a quality high-level talent to the roster each event he was at.

Jake stands a generous 6-foot-even, 210-pounds and is thick, strong and burly, a suitable body type for the demands of the catching position. As we watched him develop over the course of his career two things were crystal clear; He kept improving, and his work ethic was unmatched. Part of the new-age catching style, Jake can really swing the bat with authority (mid 90's exit velo), arm finished with us at 75 mph, and catching skills are still developing.

Jake found his next-level home at Canisius College and recently finished up his first fall baseball experience with the Golden Griffs. A possible switch to the corner at the college level, but we see the bat playing once he gets acclimated to the everyday grind.

Cameron Zurat 1B / 3B / Williamsville North , NY / 2019

Younger brother, Cameron is entering his Junior year at Williamsville North HS and also no stranger to PBR. The younger brother has more projectable size standing 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with a lanky wiry build. He currently workouts from both corner positions, but until the arm strength jumps, first-base is our pick.

Much like his older sibling, Cameron keeps getting better the more we see him. The bat-speed has jumped nearly 10-mph over the course of three-years, the footwork (although still choppy) has improved around the bag, and the long arm action continues to build strength. We will see the Full Circuit Athletics prospect February 19 at our Preseason All-State West. We expect to see all his measurable stats improved as he starts his climb up the 2019 rankings.

Comparing the Two:
Doing a quick "numbers" comparison based on where both brothers were at a similar time frame in their development, it's almost exact. Both brothers were within two-mph of each other on arm-strength and exit velocity. Both had similar recorded home-to-first times as well. We will obviously know a lot more next week after Cameron works out, but the reports we are getting are positive, and it appears he's elevating his game to a new-level. Due to his size and body projection, we will be keeping a close eye on Cameron this spring and summer.
