Chopticon and Calvert played a very tight game through four innings Wednesday afternoon but it was the Braves who took control in the fifth and sixth to win the game going away. Calvert had chances to score in every inning but left thirteen runners on base in total.

After a scoreless top of the first, Ben D’Angelo led off the bottom half for Chopticon with a walk and stole second. One batter later, three hole hitter Chase Burroughs (UNC-Charlotte) singled to center for the games opening run.

The Braves would plate another in the second on the first of two successful first-and-third plays in the game and a third run in the fourth to make it 3-0. Phillip McCarthy was hit by a pitch and Elijah Tyding singled to set up the first-and-third play in the second and it was Tyding again in the fourth coming up big with an RBI double.

With Braves starter Brandon Samuels set on cruise control; Chopticon added six more runs in the fifth inning to blow the game wide open. A two-RBI double by Samuels, an RBI single by Tyding, and a bases clearing three-RBI double by Burroughs were the highlights of their offensive outburst.

Jordan Founce led off the sixth with a walk and Cameron Clarke singled to set up yet another first and third situation in which the Braves executed to perfection to walk off the Cavaliers 10-0.

Samuels was masterful on the mound all day keeping the Cavalier bats quiet finishing his complete game with six strikeouts and allowing just three hits. Burroughs (2-for-3, 2B, BB, 3 RBI’s), Tyding (3-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI’s, R), and Samuels (1-for-2, 2B, BB, 2 RBI’s) led the Braves offensively as they improve to (9-4) on the season.
