• Perhaps the best prospect at the showcase was Bethesda outfielder Christian Jayne (East Carolina), who red-shirted this spring after working his way back from an injury that sidelined him in the fall. A projectable 6-foot-5, 190-pound long-strider, Jayne glides effortlessly around the outfield, where his plus-plus speed is a major asset. He made a gorgeous diving catch in the gap on Monday, and also smoked an RBI triple into the right-center gap, showing off his exciting lefthanded bat speed. Jayne still needs to refine his offensive approach — he has 31 strikeouts and 13 walks in 122 at-bats this summer for Bethesda, but he’s also hitting .303 with nine steals. He has yet to tap into his tantalizing raw power potential, but it’s only a matter of time before he does.

• Cade Doughty, an incoming freshman at LSU, also ranked among the top prospects at the event. Doughty excelled against older competition in both days, delivering a pair of RBI singles on Monday against the Sunbelt, then adding a laser single to left and a double to the left-field warning track on Tuesday against the SCBL.
