Calvary Christian Cruises Past Bishop Verot To Win The 4A State Title

The Calvary Christian Academy Eagles rolled over the Bishop Verot Vikings 12-1 on Saturday afternoon to win the 2016 4A state championship. It was apparent from the very beginning that Calvary Christian was coming out swinging and the only chance for Bishop Verot to compete would be if they were able drive in a multitude of runs. Unfortunately for the Vikings, 2016 LHP Noah Yager (South Florida commit) was at his best as he threw a complete game shutout for the Eagles. Offensively, Calvary Christian was led by 2017 C/1B Victor Pimentel and 2016 OF Tommy Orr who drove in three runs apiece.

The Eagles wasted no time putting pressure on the Vikings as Pimentel roped a two-run single, Orr hit an RBI double, and 2017 RHP/OF Luis Ezra laced an RBI double to right field, all in consecutive order. After tacking on one more run, Bishop Verot came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning down 5-0.

After Yager cruised through the first three innings for Calvary Christian, it became apparent that a comeback was not in the cards for Bishop Verot as they trailed 8-0 heading into the fourth inning.

The final four runs for the Eagles came in the fifth inning, two of which were driven in by Orr, and the Vikings scored their only run of the game in the bottom half of the frame when 2017 INF Gunnar Byrd hit a sacrifice fly to right field.

This championship contest only lasted five innings because the mercy rule was in effect. The final out came on a groundball to the shortstop and Yager was of course on the bottom of the dogpile as he earned the complete game victory for Calvary Christian.
