WP: Mike Delio
Carle Place HS squared off with Hempstead HS Tuesday night.
It was over when: Mike Delio started warming up.
Billy Chiappone went off at the plate going 3-3 with a grand slam.

Delio was on point tonight, in fact he was perfect. Mike never allowed a base-runner in his seven innings of work while striking out all 21 batters that came to the plate. "Warming up before the game felt different" said Delio. "My fastball was more powerful and my off speed pitches were really working well." This was Delio's first varsity start after spending the last two seasons on JV, making his performance tonight even more impressive. "After the third inning of nine consecutive strikeouts I had a feeling that something special might be happening" said Delio. "My teammates knew to stay away except my best friend who came up to me after every inning saying you won't strike out three more, making it a little competition for me." Emotions can run high on the baseball field sometimes getting the best of us, but for Mike this experience has been surreal. "Right now I'm still in a state of shock about what occurred" said Delio. "Having played this game with my friends makes this experience that much sweeter, it will be a day I never forget." A day his teammates, school, and coaches will never forget either.

"I've been playing baseball for a long time and I have never seen such a dominant performance like I saw today" said Carle Place HS Coach Brian Krummenacker.
