Colorado 2020 Uncommitted Spotlight: Blake Rarog

In this spotlight, we look at C/P Blake Rarog (Legend HS). Rarog has been a standout at events in the past and is ranked No. 70 in the state of Colorado. He's a two-sport prospect starring on the gridiron in the fall. Coaches of both sports have an uncommitted athlete on their hands and someone to keep their eyes on the rest of this fall and next spring.

Scouting Report

3-10-19A 5-foot-9, 180-pound all-around projectable player who pitches from the right side. Repeatable motion that is quick and compact to the plate. Arm is short out of the glove and he delivers from a high 3/4 slot. Fastball has good arm side run and was 82 MPH. Curve flashed tight spin and 11/5 shape at 65-66 MPH. Change was delivered with near fastball arm speed with feel as 71-72 MPH. At the plate he hits from a narrow open stance with a high leg kick on the pitch. Lower half fires through the zone and swing is uphill with pull side power.

8-4-18 - 5-foot-9, 175-pound right hand hitting C/SS who ran a 7.00 60. Rarog was all over the field at the TPG.  At the plate he hits from a back heavy crouched stance with a long stride and big leg kick on the swing.  Shows good power to the pull side.  Hands are quick through the zone producing an 85 mph exit velocity.  Behind the plate he turned heads with his 1.92 pop-time and 78 mph arm.  He has quick actions and a lighting quick release.  In the field he uses his athleticism to cover ground at short and make hard plays look routine.  His arm is high ¾ and played at 79 mph with accuracy.

1-28-185-foot-9, 175 pounds. Will be biggest riser out our the event and showcased how much skills have improved. Impressive arm-strength behind the dish at 76 mph which also led to the best pop-time at 1.85 off a coach. Right-handed hitter, Open stance, big leg kick trigger, solid balance. Short loose path, hands create bat speed, projectable traits at the plate. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Righty on the mound and throws from an over-the-top arm angle, average arm speed. Toe lift to balance point with average effort leads to some rhythm and helps land in line. Straight fastball averages between 78-79 mph. Curve had sweeping 10/4 break, sits in the 67-68 range. Occasionally slows arm action down during changeup, averages 71 mph.

1-28-18 - 5-foot-9, 175 pounds. SS/C who bats right, throws right. Load and leg kick starts smooth, uphill swing. Strong lower half that generates gap-to-gap power. Produced a 84 mph exit velo off the tee. Smooth at shortstop, coming through the ball with soft hands and good lateral movement. Also has advanced catching skills. Beats the ball and is soft when receiving. Blocks ball well. Quick out of the crouch on throwdowns with an over-the-top arm slot.  Quick glove-to-hand exchange. Pop-times were 1.85-1.98 off a coach. Arm velo was 76 mph. Ran a 4.35 home to first. Solid all-around player.
