Commitment Q & A - Josh Sharman

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

As always, please email [email protected] or direct message @PBRNevada with any news or commitment information.

Desert Oasis left-hander, Josh Sharman (2019)  was one of five early signees for the Diamondbacks. PBR Nevada listed him as a sleeper amongst UNLV's signing class and Sharman is a proven winner. Although, his stuff may not project the same as a few of his highly touted teammates, a source familiar with the program said, "I know DJ (Jefferson), and Aaron (Roberts) have great stuff but if I had to win a game tomorrow, Sharman would start for me." PBR Nevada recently caught up with Sharman to discuss his college selection

PBR: Why did you choose UNLV?
Sharman: I chose UNLV because I feel it's a perfect fit for me. The biggest factors that made me love UNLV was the baseball facilities are amazing, I can represent my home, and my brother is playing there right now. I also love having the greatest pitcher of all time, in my opinion, as my pitching coach (Greg Maddux).

PBR: What coach on staff was your primary recruiter and how it that relationship?
Sharman: Coach Stolte was my primary recruiter and we had a good relationship.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Sharman: I was offered by a couple other schools including CSN, UCF, and Regis.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Sharman: I played with the Dodgers Elite in the fall of my junior year and I think that is where they first saw me pitch. After that, he made it out to most of my starts.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
Sharman: I would not be where I am today without my parents always pushing me to be my best. I also got where I am because of the hard work I have put in after practices and the long nights of studying after a workout. The work I have put in has got me where I am at today.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer/fall and what has that experience been like?
Sharman: I played for the Desert Oasis Aces and Dodgers Elite during the summer and fall over the years. Last year, we won the state championship, regional championship, but lost in the National Championship. This summer made me realize that I really enjoyed representing my hometown. The experience I had this summer was once in a lifetime and I will never forget the memories we made and bonds we created.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have for you during your freshman year?
Sharman: As a freshman, nothing is given to me and I will have to earn everything. He said he will give me opportunities to earn a spot and that is all I can ask for.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
Sharman: My most memorable baseball moment has to be in the National Championship this summer when we pulled off a hidden ball trick. That is something I can tell my kids about and brag that I was on SportsCenter Top 10 and Intentional Talk.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter/pitcher you have faced in Nevada?
Sharman: I have faced several prospects such as Royce Lewis and Nick Quintana, but the toughest hitter I faced last year was the hottest hitter in the country, Austin Pfeifer.
