PBR: Why did you choose the school you did

Hauge: I chose Minnesota State University, Mankato because their school has a very good psychology program, and the baseball program has had a tradition of success. Along with this the coaches were incredibly welcoming, personable, and knowledgeable

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Hauge: South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Augustana, and Winona State

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Hauge: Coach McIntee was one of the coaches at the 2017 University of Minnesota prospect camp. Although we didn’t start talking until after the PBR Minnesota Top prospect games, their coaching staff had seen me quite a few times. Every phone call and conversation I had with the coaches seemed to have me leaving with a smile on my face and it felt right

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Hauge: I am relieved that the recruiting process is done but the work has just begun. Committing to play college baseball just means you’re going to be a freshman all over again and I am determined to continue developing myself, so I can make an impact right away.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Hauge: The coaching staff and the team were extremely welcoming on our visit and I think that took it to the next level. Along with that their mindset is very developmentally focused and I cherish that highly.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Hauge: I don’t think that there is one person who helped me the most, but my High School coach Shannon Blansette and club coaches Kevin Kirkwold, CJ Woodrow, and Brandon Peterson have made me a better baseball player as well as a more well-rounded person. Alongside that I couldn’t thank all of my youth coaches enough for helping me develop my love for the game

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Hauge: I expected the recruiting process to be incredibly stressful, but I found it rather fun. Throughout the whole process I learned a lot about myself and building relationships with other people.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Hauge: The coaches and I have agreed that I could move around for their team in a utility role but there are so many established players already in the program and I need to earn my spot. Right now, I want to put myself in a position that allows me to compete for a spot in the lineup.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Hauge: Winning the Las Vegas Desert Classic this fall was an awesome experience, but I think my favorite experience was hitting a home run during our high school’s youth night last spring. I had a very hard time establishing myself as a young baseball player and hitting a home run in that situation meant a lot to me.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Hauge: I’ve played against a lot of great players, but I’d say Drew Gilbert and Michael Prosecky would be on the top of my list.
