PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Zaetta: I chose West Point because it was the most unbelievable experience I had ever had on a campus when I first visited.  I knew as soon as I left, with everything I saw and experienced that weekend, that it was the right place for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Zaetta: There were a few other D1 schools that I was very close to but I knew what I wanted and West Point gave me that.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Zaetta: The first coach to see me was the infield and hitting coach, Coach Murphy, and he first saw me play in a PG tournament in Ft. Meyers Florida.  From there we talked on the phone and I knew that he was someone I really liked even before I met him in person.  After that my dad and I flew to New York and we met coach Murphy along with the rest of the staff and we immediately clicked.  They all were the same type of person as me and I loved it.  The other thing was that my dad loved them too, which is very important.  It is important to understand who you will be working with for the next 4 years of your life.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Zaetta: I definitely feel relieved, but I also feel like a new level of grind and work is just beginning.  My college decision is a bit more unique than others as I not only have Education and Baseball, but I also have the Military side.  I have begun to accept that there are going to be very few days off for me and that a new level of grind is coming.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Zaetta: I would say that the coaching staff at West Point as well as the feeling on the campus were the two overwhelming factors for me.  I had absolutely no doubt when I made my decision.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Zaetta:  I have had many people along the way that have worked me through all of the processes of life, but the people that I am with everyday trump all of them.  My parents are the biggest reason why I am the person, athlete, student, and man that I am today.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Zaetta: I expected that, being where I was from (Minnesota), that the process would go much slower and come at a much later time.  I was wrong.  I worked hard and was awarded a pretty quick recruiting process which was awesome.  And most importantly, I was awarded the opportunity at a program that is perfect for me.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Zaetta: This is another reason why I was so locked in on West Point and still am.  From the moment I step on campus, I have the opportunity to prove myself and earn a spot at any given time.  That’s all you can ask for.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Zaetta:  I would say my most memorable baseball moment to date was the whole journey of getting to the 2018 class 4A State Championship Game at Target Field and helping my team get to that point over the season.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Zaetta: I played in the PBR Futures Games and there were some very good baseball players there.
