Commitment Spotlight: Isaiah Jackson

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

Today, We had the pleasure of catching up with 2022 OF Isaiah Jackson of Cienega High School to ask him a few questions about his college recruiting experience.

+ 2022 OF Isaiah Jackson (Cienega)- really started to gain traction this summer after performances at the 2022 Top Prospect Games and competing as a member of Team Arizona at the PBR Future Games. Jackson sports a long athletic body with above average strength & athleticism. His carrying tool in the future should be his left-handed bat that has shown real power potential over the course of the last 8 months. At both events he did with PBR this summer, he showed natural juice, hitting several ball over the RF fence with a relaxed pull-approach. He looks to drive the ball in the air while getting on plane early. Throughout our live game coverage, he shows even more ability to hit using both gaps. More power should come in the future from his advanced bat & hand speed combined with the ability to accelerate quickly. Defensively, he plays a solid CF in HS but will likely move to a corner in the future. His long frame and wingspan combined with solid jumps & footwork make up for some lack in speed. His arm should continue to improve the next two years.

Q&A with Isaiah Jackson

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Jackson: I looked at a lot of great programs and ASU checked off all the boxes of things I was looking for in a school. My ultimate goal is to play professionally and I felt like playing at ASU could help me get there.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Jackson: Arizona, Utah, Oregon and California State Fullerton.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Jackson: The coaching staff saw some videos of me hitting on social media. Then we talked on the phone a couple times, had some zoom calls and from there it led to the offer and then the commitment.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Jackson:  Absolutely!! It's great to play now with no pressure and just work on my craft and get better. I can also share my experience and maybe help out some of my teammates with things I learned along the way.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Jackson: The coaches were very transparent while I was going through the recruiting process and made me feel like I was already a part of the family.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Jackson: My brother has definitely helped me the most as a player. Anytime I would I would talk to him, whether its on the FaceTime or in person, he is always giving me advice or fine tuning my swing and pushing me to get better.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Jackson:  I didn't think the recruiting process would come as early as it did but it was exciting and stressful at the same time. It was tough to make decisions on my future when I wasn't able to visit the campuses.  Someone suggested I make a list of the things that were important to me and that helped to guide my conversations with coaches and make sure I got all my questions answered.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Jackson:  I think that the coaches plans are for my left handed bat to have a big impact on our offense and to be a reliable glove in the outfield.  I am excited to continue to work on those skills, earn my spot and be able to help out the team.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Jackson: On February 23, 2014 I hit my first homerun and I got my first opportunity to jog around the bases but I ended up sprinting because I was so excited!

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Jackson: I don't think there is one specific person that I've played against that is the best. Our coaches continue to find great competition and get us to the right events to help us get better every day.
