Connecticut Spotlight Game: Bristol Eastern vs New Canaan

Connecticut Spotlight Game: Bristol Eastern vs New Canaan

New Canaan, CT -- In a CIAC Class L first round matchup at Mead Park, No. 14 seed New Canaan defeated No. 19 seed Bristol Eastern 7-2.

New Canaan got the scoring started early as they picked up three runs in the bottom of the 1st. Robby Jones (2017) doubled to start things off and Nate Bozzella (2018), Matt Burger (2017), and Patrick Metzger (2018) singled in the inning.

Bristol Eastern responded in the top of the 2nd with a run of their own as Shawn Savoir (2017) drove in Zach Marquis (2017) with an RBI single.

Bristol Eastern picked up another run in the top of the 3rd to cut the lead to 3-2 as MacGregor Goulet (2018) drove in Gary Gagnier (2017) with an RBI single.

Both teams went down quietly in the 3rd inning, but New Canaan picked up two runs in the bottom of the 4th to extend its lead to 5-2. Frankie Ramppen (2020) drove in a run on an RBI triple and Robby Jones (2017) drove in Ramppen later on in the inning.

Both teams went scoreless in the 5th inning but New Canaan picked up another two runs in the bottom of the 6th. Nate Bozzella (2018) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Matt Burger (2017) drove in a run on an RBI single. After getting a couple of runners on in the top of the 7th, Bristol Eastern did not score.

Top Performers

Bristol Eastern:
  • Gary Gagnier, C, 2017 - Went 1-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored. Also had a solid day behind the plate. Good athlete who can swing the bat.
  • MacGregor Goulet, 3B, 2018 - Went 1-3 with an RBI in this game. Played a solid 3B as well. He’s a pretty big kid and a good athlete who hits the ball hard.
New Canaan:
  • Robby Jones, LHP, 2017 - Picked up the win in this game. Pitched 6 innings, struck out 6, allowed 4 hits, 3 walks, and 2 runs. Also had a great day at the plate. Went 3-3 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and a run scored. Really solid two way player. Hit the ball hard every times he was up.
  • Nate Bozzella, SS, 2018 - Went 1-3 in this game with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Had a very good day in the field as well. Made a bunch of good looking plays. Has good range and a strong arm. Good looking young player.
  • Frankie Ramppen, OF, 2020 - Went 1-2 in this game with a triple, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. Really good looking young player who is also a switch hitter. He is a very good athlete who can fly on the bases and has good range in the outfield.
