Crown Point Survives Munster Rally

Zach Plesac (2013: uncommitted), from #14 Crown Point, was on his game Thursday evening. With another low scoring Northwest Indiana game in progress, Plesac had everything working, making him dominant. His fastball was clocked 79-83mph, hitting 84-85mph on numerous occasions. In addition, he was not shy about throwing his "out" pitches either, going five (5) innings, striking out 11, while giving up just one hit.

In a 0-0 game to start the bottom of the 4th inning, Sophomore Jake Jatis (2014), and Senior Joe Hopman (2012) singled back to back, setting up a sacrifice situation for Brett Bayer (2012: uncommitted). As Bayer executed the bunt perfectly, the stage was set for Junior Bobby Morgan (2013), and boy did he deliver. Morgan crushed a ball towards the right field foul line, hitting the ground slightly before the warning tracks. Both Jatis and Hopman came around to score, as Morgan glided into 3rd with a stand up triple. With one out, up 2-0, and a man on third, Crown Point showed why they are one of the best coached teams in the Region. Junior Jake Carey (2013) delivered an RBI ground out to second base, putting Crown Point up 3-0 over Munster to end the 4th.

As the game continued, Munster had a difficult time getting in rhythm at the plate, only carrying one hit into the 6th inning. The top of the 7th would be a different story. With Junior Markus Kessler (2013), relieving Zach Plesac, and throwing well into the 7th, Munster finally got the approach down at the dish. With the bases loaded, with a walk by Chris Slivka (2012), a hit by Mike Mueller (2013) and a walk by Scott Crilly (2013), Sophomore Alex Del Rio (2014) delivered in the clutch, hitting a single on the first pitch he saw to right field. The dramatics did not stop there. Shortly after Del Rio's single, Senior Christian Catania (2012) walked, scoring Mike Mueller, cutting the lead to a one run game. As Markus Kessler exited the game for Crown Point, reliever David Kepshire ended the debate on who would win, striking out his one and only hitter. Final: Crown Point 3 - Munster 2.

Surprising Stat(s) of the Day: Only two players had multi hit games for either team, both of which were Sophomores. Jake Jatis (2014) of Crown Point went 2-3 with two singles and a run scored; while Alex Del Rio (2-3) of Munster went 2-3 with two singles and a RBI.
