Regional Tournaments began across the state on Friday. Here is a look at the games from the 4A South Regional that was hosted at Malvern High School.

No. 1 Ashdown High School 10 vs No. 4 Crossett High School 0

Ashdown HS beat Crossett HS 10-0 in the first game of the regional tournament. The game fought the weather with an hour rain delay. When the game went to the rain delay the score was 1-0 Ashdown leading going into the bottom of the second inning. After the delay, Ashdown took advantage of the their athleticism and a wet field, executing the bunt game to a T. Crossett had a hard time defending committing 9 errors in the final 4 innings of play.

2016 LHP Austin Cross picked up the win for Ashdown throwing 5 innings allowing just 2 hits.

No. 2 Hamburg High School 10 vs No. 3 Nashville High School 1

Hamburg HS beat Nashville HS 10-1 in game 2 of the day.

The Lions hammered out 15 hits including 4 doubles to power their offense. Leading them offensively was 2016 OF Darien Burns. Burns went 4-4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI’s and a run scored.

On the mound 2016 LHP Drake Streeter was impressive, mixing his breaking in, in fastball counts and location his fastball on both sides of the plate. Streeter threw 7 innings allowed 3 hits punched out 7 and allowed 1 run.

No. 1 Star City High School 3 vs No. 4 Bauxite High School 2

Star City HS beat Bauxite HS 3-2 in a pitchers dual in game three.  Star City used their junior duo of 2016 RHP Blake Wynn and RHP Garry Hill to combine for the win. Bauxite senior RHP Ben Madison was sharp in the loss.

Star City came out fast, Wynn retired the side in order and the offense exploded for 3 runs in the bottom of the first. An error, a Wynn single and Hill double and the Bulldogs were rolling. A good pitcher can put a stop to that in a hurry. Madison did just that settling in over the next five innings, shutting the Bulldogs down. Every time they threatened, he had the same answer a strike out with his wipe out slider.

Madison’s final line on the day was 6 innings pitched allowing 6 hits and striking out 10.

As good as he was, the Star City Duo came up on top. Wynn pitched 4.33 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits to get the win. Hill pitched the final 2.66 innings allowing just one hit.

No. 2 Arkadelphia HS 12 vs Monticello HS 2

Arkadelphia took care of business in the night cap winning 12-2 against Monticello.

Monticello jumped out in the first innings scoring 1 when 2015 MIF Christian Paul reached on an error, and later scored on 2015 C Peyton Merrell groundball.

The Badgers made the most of their opportunities from there, scoring 12 runs on 7 hits, and 12 walks/HBP and 2 errors.

Offensively they received big days from 2016 DH Dylan Parnham and 2015 OF Brooks Burnham. Parnharm went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs and a run scored, while Burnham went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.

Arkadelphia turned to 2016 Brandon Matros in the must win game, and he did not disappoint. He threw 5 innings allowed, 0 earned runs, on 1 hit and striking out 4, on an efficient 74 pitches.
