Conway High School 3 vs Catholic High School 1

Conway HS beat Catholic HS 3-1 Tuesday evening to clinch the 7A Central conference championship and a bye in next week’s 7A State Tournament.

The Wampus Cats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1^st. OF McCall Dail hit the 2^nd pitch of the game over the left field wall for the first run. The second run came off a Blake Condit two out single that scored Jacob Adams who reached on a fielder choice.

Matt Strickland kept Catholic hitters off balance in his 5 innings of work, mixing his fastball, curveball and changeup for strikes. The ability to locate his fastball on the inner half was key for Strickland, as he picked up the win.

Conway added another run with a 2018 DH Matt Lloyd single, a 2018 OF Parker Gavazzi sac bunt, and a Reck Sac Fly, to make the score 3-0 after 3 ½ innings.

Catholic answered in the bottom of the 4^th with a 2015 C William Hancock Double to make the final score of 3-1.

2018 LHP Evan Hiatt was the pitcher of record for Catholic, throwing 4 innings allowing 3 earned runs. The left-hander shows much promise locating his fastball in the bottom half of the strike and showing a feel for his change up and curveball.

2017 RHP Cade Tucker recorded a 6 –out save for Conway. Throwing the final two innings allowing just one hit.
