Daily Roundup: April 23 Games

It had been exactly one month to the day since the No.1 ranked St. Xavier Tigers had lost a baseball game.  That streak came to an end last night in Louisville as Floyd Central, ranked No.5 by PBR Indiana, used a six-run seventh inning to record a stunning comeback victory over the host Tigers. 

In fact, as you look through the scores and highlights, it was a night highlighted by several upsets in the Power 25.

Here are the scores and highlights from around Kentucky for last evening.

Floyd Central IN 8, (No.1) Saint Xavier 7
Cruising with a 7-2 lead entering the 7th inning, the Tigers allowed 6 runs and lost their first game exactly a month to the day since their last loss.  Floyd Central is ranked #5 in the PBR Indiana top 25.  Josh Osborne and Andrew McCormick each had doubles in the loss.  Matt Lasley pitched well for the Tigers, allowing 1 earned run in his 5 innings of work.

Nate Clifton went 3-3 with a triple and 4 RBI to lead the Titans.  David Decker racked up 12 K’s in going the distance on the mound.

(No.6) Tates Creek 5  (No.20) Lexington Christian 1
Blake Rose collected 2 hits and Luke Rouse doubled and drove in 2 runs as Tates Creek continued its string of impressive wins.  Caleb Johnson allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run with 6 K’s in going the distance for the win.

Paducah Tilghman 7  (No.11) Lone Oak 3
Caleb Farley had 2 hits and Isiah Williams drove in 2 runs as Tilghman upset Lone Oak.  Jeremiah White aloowed 2 earned runs in going the distance for the win. 

Mercer County 5  (No.14) East Jessamine 2
Layne Peavler went 3-3 with a double and home run, and Jackson Stoeckinger had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs.  JT Long racked up 10 K’s in going the distance for the complete game win. 

North Laurel 9  (No.15) Hazard 0
North Laurel broke open the game scoring 6 times in the 6th inning to pull away.  Marcus Carson and Zach Hurley combined to shutout the Hazard offense.  

(No.16) Russell County 9  Metcalfe County 3
Austin Hadley went 2-4 with a home run, and Alex Turner allowed 1 earned run over 5 1/3 innings of relief to record the win.

Grant Best collected 2 hits and 3 RBI, and Tyler Robertson had 2 hits in the victory.  Garrett Stephens allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run in his 5 innings of work.

Alex Sears went 2-4 with a double, triple and 3 RBI to lead South Laurel to the win. 

(No.21) West Jessamine 25  Burgin 0 (5 innings) 

Fairdale 5  (No.23) Shelby County 4 (8 innings)
Max Cole and Tyler Garcia each had 2 hits in the Fairdale win.  Kevin Veeley doubled and homered in the loss for Shelby County.

 Franklin-Simpson 5  (No.24) Logan County 1 

Fern Creek 11  Whitefield Academy 3
Evan Flener went 2-3 with 3 RBI, and Walter Baker stroked two doubles to lead Fern Creek.  Ryne Underwood allowed one earned run in going the distance for the win. Ryan Woosley doubled twice in the loss for Whitefield. 

Boyle County 2  Lincoln County 0
Brett Jones had a 2 hits and Jarrett had a run scoring single.  Casey Whittle fired a complete game, allowing 4 hits and striking out 8 to record the win. 

Bardstown 12  Thomas Nelson 0 (5 innings)
Matt Bond went 2-3 with a triple and RBI, Jonathan Greer doubled and drove in 3 runs, and Dillan O’Daniel added a triple for Bardstown.  O’Daniel was the winning pitcher as well, allowing just 1 hit for the shutout. 

Franklin County 6  Western Hills 3
The Franklin County Flyers Varsity beat Western Hills 6-3 in seven innings on Tuesday at Western Hills behind Zach Durham, who collected three hits. Brandon Smither kept contact to a minimum, striking out seven Western Hills batters. Smither allowed no earned runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings. 

Bethlehem 3  Nelson County 1
Blake Brangers had 2 hits, and Jimmy Keating went the distance to earn the win. 

Scott County 10  Sayre 6
Chase Martin homered, and Bo Saunders, Ryon Bean, and Alden Gruchow each collected 2 hits in the Scott Co win.  Despite allowing 6 runs (3 earned), Matt Gregory racked up 13 K’s in throwing a complete game.  Ray Brewer homered in the loss for Sayre. 

Atherton 10  John Hardin 5
Evan Dyer went 3-4 with 2 doubles, a triple and 3 RBI to lead Atherton.  Nate DeNicola added a double and drove in 3 runs.  Matthew Kruer allowed 2 earned runs over 5 innings to pick up the win. 

Murray 3  Marshall County 2
Dustin Bevel went 2-3 and scored 2 runs, and Luke Brown allowed 3 hits while striking out 8 in his 6 innings of work.  Ryan Alderson recorded the save, striking out 2 of the final 3 hitters to preserve the victory. 

Caldwell County 3  Mayfield 2
Landon Burns had 2 hits to lead Caldwell County.  Jordan Young allowed no earned runs over 5 innings, and Cody Owen picked up the win by throwing 2 scoreless innings of relief. 

Knox Central 9  Pineville 4
Seth Hill went 2-3 and scored 3 runs, and Drew Mills struck out 8 over 6 innings to pick up the win. 

Cumberland County 5  Clinton County 2
Larry Johnson went 2-3 with a double and 3 RBI and also fired a complete game with 6 strikeouts. 

Greenwood 11  Warren Central 4
Trevor Brewer went 4-5 with 4 RBI, and Chris Hardin added 4 hits and drove in 2 runs.  Drew Hayles also went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI in the win.  Brewer picked up the win, allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 8 over 5 2/3 innings. 

Harlan County 10  Bell County 0 (6 innings)
Blake Rutherford went 3-3 with a double, and Scotty Bailey launched a 2-run homer to lead Harlan County.  Five Harlan County pitchers combined on a 2-hit shutout. 

Adair County 10  Marion County 0 (6 innings)
The Indians used a six run third inning in route to the shutout win at Marion Co.  Will Hixson led Adair with three hits and also picked up the win on the mound, tossing 5 innings, striking out 5 and scattering 2 hits.  Colton Back also added three singles in the Indians 16 hit attack. 

Warren East 1  Bowling Green 0
Hunter Green racked up 16 K’s in going the distance in the complete game 2-hit shutout. 

Daviess County 11  McClean County 1 (5 innings)
Sean Pedley went 2-3 with a double and RBI, and Noah Pike drove in 2 runs.  Zach Burton picked up the win. 

Daviess County 13  Ohio County 3
Kyle Schneider and Noah Pike both homered and Jed Arend went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI.  Sean Pedley struck out 7 over 4 innings to record the win. 

Apollo 3  Forest Park 0
Freshman Jakob Shuler went 2-3 with a double and home run, and Tanner Edge went the distance for the complete game 2-hit shutout.
