Daily Roundup: April 25 Games

Game of the Day
No. 10 SLUH 8   No. 12 CBC 3
In the featured game of the day, two of the top ranked Class of 2013 pitchers, No. 3 Brian Howard and No. 7 Dan Herrmann faced off in what was expected to be a low scoring affair. Scouts from over a dozen teams were in attendance, and saw Howard dominate the CBC offense.  Howard went the distance, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Howard’s fastball sat 87-89 mph and topped at 90-mph, and good showed control of a breaking ball thrown on both sides of the plate and effective use of his changeup.

In the top of the first, SLUH jumped to an early lead, scoring six runs on two hits. Herrmann walked six batters in the frame, including three in a row with the bases loaded. A two out, two RBI single in the first by Charlie Kretchmer put SLUH up 6-0.

SLUH tacked on another run in the second, extending the lead to 7-0. Herrmann got two quick strikeouts, then hit the next two batters and walked another to load the bases. Robert Plohr relieved Herrmann, issuing a bases loaded walk to Michael Potter.

CBC cut the deficit to 7-2 in the fourth after a leadoff double by Matt Vierling and an RBI single off the bat of Justin Paulsen, who would eventually come around to score on an error.

In the seventh, each team scored another run, Michael Potter from SLUH doubled and came around to score on a Kretchmer groundout, and CBC’s Bobby Lange doubled (second of the game) and scored on a RBI single by Joe Schrimpf.
