Daily Roundup: April 8 Games

It was a fairly busy night in the top ten of the Power 25 as #3 St. Xavier brought an end to #6 Eastern's 12-game winning streak, #4 West Jessamine remained undefeated and now stand at 13-0, and #7 Paul Laurence Dunbar knocked off #5 Lexington Catholic.  

Here is a look at scores and highlights from around the state last evening.

#1 Mercer Co 1, East Jessamine 1
The rains came in the top of the 7th with the score knotted at 1.  Jarred Jones and Jackson Stoeckinger kept both offenses at bay.  Stoeckinger allowed 2 hits and struck out 9 in his 5 innings of work, while Jones worked 6 innings, allowing 3 hits while striking out 6.  The game will be resumed this evening with Mercer County batting in the top of the 7th with a runner on second base and no outs.

#3 St. Xavier 5, #6 Eastern 3
The Tigers put an end to Eastern’s impressive 12-game winning streak.

#4 West Jessamine 8, Anderson Co 1
Tucker Greer went 2-for-3 and scored 2 runs, and Dakota Greer fired a complete game, 1-hitter with 11 K’s as West Jessamine remained undefeated on the season at 13-0.

#7 Paul Laurence Dunbar 5, #5 Lexington Catholic 3

#14 Danville 7, Boyle Co 3
Mason Stamm went 2-for-3 with a HR and 2 RBI, Jay Humm went 2-for-4, and Nick Serey added a double in the Danville win.  Winning pitcher Serey allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs in the complete game effort.

#16 Scott Co 13, Bryan Station 7
Tanner Blankenship went 4-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI, and Malik Wilson added 2 hits and drove in 2 runs in the Scott County victory.  Matt Gregory worked 4 innings to pick up the win.

#20 Bullitt East 3, Whitefield Academy 0
Jacob Bowles went 2-for-2 with a double, HR, and 2 RBI, and Chase Patton fired a complete game, 2-hit shutout with 11 K’s to record the win.

#25 CAL 2, #18 Collins 1
Brett Cohoon drove in both runs and collected 2 hits for CAL, Jake Hollinsworth went 3-for-3 and scored twice, and Jonathan Embry added 2 hits as CAL improved to 9-3 on the season.  Riley Thompson allowed 4 hits and struck out 10 in going the distance for the win.

George Rogers Clark 4, Montgomery Co 1
Luke Sharrock went 3-for-3 with 3 doubles, and Jordan Williams scattered 5 hits in going the distance to pick up the win.

Madison Central 4, Franklin Co 0
Joe Holbrook went 2-for-3 with a RBI and also fired a 1-hit shutout with 10 K’s to pick up the win.

West Carter 7, Raceland 6
Ben Jordan went 3-for-3, and Chase Hanshaw drove in 2 runs in West Carter’s one-run win.  Tyler Morris allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings of work to pick up the win.

Taylor Co 4, Cumberland Co 1
Tyler Frogge went 2-for-3, and Daniel Carney added a double and drove in a run as Taylor County won its 11th consecutive game to start the season.  Winning pitcher Dalton Brown allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run with 12 K’s in his 6 innings of work.

Boyd Co 10, Russell 7
Billy McCoy went 2-for-3 with a double and 5 RBI, and Jacob Barnwell went 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and a RBI in the Boyd County victory.  Dylan Grimm allowed 4 hits and 1 earned run with 11 K’s in his 6 innings of work for the win.

Western Hills 4, Nelson Co 3
Zack Barker went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, and Kyle Stevens threw 2 shutout innings to pick up the win in relief.

North Laurel 9, Clay Co 1
Ethan Maxey and Zach Hurley each collected 2 hits, Jake McWhorter homered, and Austin Rudder drove in 3 runs for North Laurel.  Logan Mallory struck out 7 and allowed 1 earned run in going the distance for the win.

Hopkinsville 11, Murray 2
Easton McGee went 2-for-4, Rashad Lewis drove in 2 runs, and Trace Altman doubled and drove in a run in the Hopkinsville win.  Winning pitcher Keaton Scruggs worked 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 6 strikeouts.

Greenwood 3, Green Co 0
In a game that featured just 3 hits between the two teams, Greenwood came out on top.  Michael Justice allowed just 2 hits in 6 shutout innings to pick up the win.

Calloway Co 10, Hickman Co 4
Dain Satterwhite went 3-for-4 with a triple and RBI, Austin Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI, and Connor Wagner added 2 hits in the Calloway County victory.  Anderson worked 5 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts to pick up the win.

Somerset 11, Apollo 1
Charlie Dishman went 2-for-3 with a double, HR, and 3 RBI and pitched 4.1 innings with 9 K’s to pick up the win.

Apollo 6, Campbellsville 3
Zach Mooney, Cole Lyons, and Jason Taylor each collected 2 hits apiece, and Ryan Hundley struck out 7 in 6 innings of work to pick up the win for Apollo.
