Daily Roundup: April 9 Games

Another week, another No. 1 quickly goes down as East Jessamine knocked off Mercer County in the continuation of the game that began on Tuesday evening, but was stopped by rain in the top of the 7th inning.  Here is a look at scores and highlights from around the state last evening.

East Jessamine 2, #1 Mercer Co 1
The game was resumed from Tuesday in the top of the 7th with the score tied at 1-1.  Mercer County loaded the bases with one out but Sam Hall struck out the next two batters to end the threat.  With two outs in the bottom of the 7th, Stephen Treadway singled to score Ike Ross from second base for the walk-off victory. 

#2 Tates Creek 8, # 17 Lafayette 0
Luke Rouse went 2-for-3 with a RBI, Blake Rose went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Jaren Shelby drove in 2 runs in the shutout victory.  Tanner Hart fired a complete game, 4-hitter with 8 strikeouts.

#22 DeSales 5, #3 St. Xavier 4
Henry Weiter and Trent Saylor each collected 2 hits, and Daniel Breedlove drove in 2 runs as DeSales knocked off St. Xavier.  Taylen Blair picked up the win, allowing no earned runs over 3.1 innings of work.

#6 Eastern 5, Butler 4

#7 Paul Laurence Dunbar 10, LCA 5
Jack Cress and Connor Huskey each collected 2 hits and drove in 4 runs, Jacob Crouch and Garrett Bugg each went 2-for-4 with a double, and Nicky Avioli added a triple in the PLD victory.  Connor McHugh allowed 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 6 in 5.1 innings of work for the win.

#8 Henderson Co 10, Hopkinsville 7
Kaleb Duckworth hit a 2-run HR, Ethan Meeler went 3-for-4 with a RBI, and Andrew Richmond collected 2 hits and drove in 3 runs as Henderson County held off a late rally for the win.  Winning pitcher Clay Church allowed just 1 hit and struck out 5 in 6 innings of work.

Conner 12, #9 Beechwood 2 (5 Innings)
Blake Hart went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI as Conner scored 7 runs in the 5th for the run-rule victory.  Cameron Ross racked up 9 K’s in going the distance for the win.

#9 Beechwood 6, Newport Central Catholic 2

#10 Ballard 9, DuPont Manual 0
Nick Nonos hit his 3rd HR of the season, and Blake Frost picked up the win.

#13 Bourbon Co 10, Grant Co 0 (5 Innings)
Bourbon County remained undefeated on the season as Dalton Pope fired a no-hitter with 7 K’s.

#15 McCracken Co 11, #11 Paducah Tilghman 0 (6 Innings)
McCracken scored 4 runs in the 4th to break a scoreless tie and then added 6 more runs in the 6th to turn the game into a rout.  Nathan Williams went 3-for-3 with a double and scored 3 runs, Dylan Humphrey doubled and drove in 3 runs, and Preston Frommeyer went 3-for-3 with a double and 4 RBI.  Frommeyer allowed just 2 hits and struck out 11 in the complete game win.

#16 Scott Co 12, Sayre 1 (5 Innings)
Johnson McKenzie went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Will Pitts added 2 hits and drove in 2 runs as Scott County scored 9 runs in the first two innings and never looked back.  Lukas Mud allowed 0 earned runs and struck out 4 in going the distance for the win.

#21 South Laurel 4, North Laurel 3

Oldham Co 4, #23 North Oldham 3
Ross Gowing went 2-for-4 with a double, and Austin Funk and Tanner Hennings each added 2 hits as Oldham County scored a run in the bottom of the 7th for the win.  Austin Norman allowed 2 earned runs in going the distance for the complete game win.

#24 South Oldham 3, Trimble Co 0

Owensboro Catholic 5, Somerset 2
Ray Zuberer went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, and Houston Hartz collected 2 hits and drove in a run in the Owensboro Catholic win.  Stephen Thompson allowed 2 hits and no earned runs in 5.2 innings of work.

Campbellsville 11, Somerset 0 (5 Innings)
Caleb Gupton went 3-for-4 with a RBI, JT Holmes stroked 2 doubles and drove in 3 runs, and Antonio Barrera added 2 hits and 2 RBI in the Campbellsville rout.  Barrera allowed 4 hits in 5 shutout innings to pick up the win.

Dixie Heights 2, Campbell Co 1
Adam Daria went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Henry Kerns added a double as Dixie scored twice in the 5th and held on for the win.  Matthew Wehrle allowed 3 hits in 6 shutout innings to pick up the win, while Chris Ruedebusch worked a scoreless 7th for the save.

Fern Creek 5, Jeffersontown 2
Evan Flener went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, and Colton Hutzelman added 2 hits and drove in a run in the Fern Creek victory.  Ryne Underwood scattered 7 hits and struck out 5 in going the distance for the complete game win.

Pulaski Co 2, Rockcastle Co 1
Aaron Smith allowed 3 hits in 6.2 innings to pick up the win.  Blake Burton recorded the final out to earn the save.

Harlan Co 6, Middlesboro 1
Scotty Bailey went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored 2 runs, and Anthony Jenkins added 2 hits and a RBI in the Harlan County victory.  Tyler Cornett pitched a complete game, allowing 4 hits and 1 earned run with 7 strikeouts.

Kentucky Country Day 3, Spencer Co 1 (9 Innings)
Mason Bennett and Parker James each collected 2 hits, and James struck out 8 in 4 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Russell Co 5, Adair Co 4
Brett Kimbler went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, and Alex Turner and Taylor Grider each added 2 hits in the victory.  Grider allowed just 1 hit and struck out 6 in going the distance for the win.

Mason Co 11, Scott 0 (5 Innings)
Drew Spangler launched 2 home runs and drove in 5, Michael Sutton went 2-for-2 with a double and 4 RBI, and Aaron Sculley added 2 hits and scored 2 runs in the Mason County rout.  Scilley worked 5 innings on the mound with 7 K’s to earn the win.

Bowling Green 6, Christian Co 3
Devin Hayes went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, Joseph McIntyre added 2 hits, and Seaton Sheldon drove in 2 runs in the win.  McIntyre picked up the win, allowing 3 hits and 3 earned runs in 6.1 innings of work.

Henry Clay 9, Bryan Station 2
Sam Jiunta and Wyatt Terrell each drove in 2 runs, and Aaron McGeorge and Cameron Lord each doubled in the Henry Clay win.  Winning pitcher Lucas Simpson allowed no earned runs over 4.1 innings.
