Daily Roundup: June 1 Regional Tournament Games

The last four tickets were punched to the State Tournament in Lexington last night. Here is a look at the scores and highlights.

6th region

PRP 1, DeSales 0
Dalton Smith went 2-for-2, and PRP scored the lone run of the game on an error in the first inning to win the 6th Region championship. Garrett Schmeltz fired a complete game, three-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead the Panthers to the victory.

7th region

Trinity 7, St. Xavier 6
Trinity built a 7-1 lead but saw St. Xavier score 5 times in the 7th inning and get the tying run on base before recording the final out to hang on for the victory. Michael Blair went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, Brody Heil added a double and drove in a t. Xavier’s offense was led by Chase Patton who went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI. Brandon Pfaadt allowed 1 run with 8 strikeouts over 6.1 innings to get the win.

9th region

Highlands 5, Conner 2
Kyle Finfrock delivered a two-run double, and Sam Hennigan followed with a two-run single as Highlands scored four times in the decisive third inning to take the lead for good. Hunter Dreves started on the mound and struck out 5 in 2 innings of work, and Drew Rom pitched the final 5 innings with 10 strikeouts to shut down the Conner offense.

14th region

Hazard 4, Perry County Central 3
Ryan Smith went the distance on the mound to send Hazard to the State Tournament for the second consecutive year.
