Daily Roundup: March 12

Yesterday, Monday, March 12, might not be the first true day of spring, but it may as well have because the Illinois high school baseball is off and running. The weather was expectedly chilly for baseball, but it was nice to see the return of baseball nonetheless. Throughout the spring we'll be posting Daily Roundups with scores across the state. In addition to area high school's beginning their seasons, keep an eye out for box scores coming from the second annual Metro East Kickoff Classic, sponsored by PBR, that starts tomorrow and runs through Saturday.

MONDAY, MARCH 12

No. 12 Libertyville 12, Lake View 3
Senior 3B Tim Jean recorded a game-high 3 RBIs and Micah Holzworth finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Libertyville. Joel Molina and Coliani Martinez added two hits apiece for Lake View.

Pawnee 23, Lutheran 0 (5 INN)
A 12-run 2nd inning, sandwiched in between two 5-run innings, was beyond enough for Pawnee to defeat the Springfield-area high school, but their arms on the mound combined for a no-hitter, too. Sophomore Jack Kratochvil led the team with 5 RBIs and 3 hits in the win.
Brimfield 9, Dyersburg (TN) 3
Brimfield scored all nine runs in the first four innings to help support junior starter Parker Pillman, who went 4 innings and allowed 3 runs but struck out 6 batters.
DuQuoin 3, Benton 2
Four shoutout innings from DuQuoin reliever Hank Stewart allowed the 2A school to come back and hang on to a 3-2 lead and win.
Monticello 12, LeRoy 0 (5 INN)
Monticello’s Cam Witting and Brock Wade combined for a two-hit, 10-strikeout shutout win in 5 innings over LeRoy to begin their season.
Aurora Central Catholic 10, Westmont 3
An eight-run 4th inning for the Chargers was more than enough for the team to claim a lead they’d hold on to. ACC’s Michael Rivas drove in a pair of runs and also threw 4 innings, and allowed 2 runs, while striking out 7.
Maroa-Forsyth 11, Meridian 4
