Here is a look at the scores and highlights from every State Tournament game around the Murfreesboro area on Wednesday, May 24, 2017.

 

DIVISION I – A

Peabody 16, North Greene 1
Hunter Hudson, Ethan Richardson, and William Pickard combined to go 9-10 with 6 runs and 8 RBIs to power the Peabody offense in their win-or-go-home game against North Greene.  Richardson homered and Noah Halbrook earned the W on the mound, tossing all 5 innings and allowing only 4 hits and striking out 6.

Goodpasture 5, Summertown 1
Ryan Lyle came up huge for Goodpasture in this winner's bracket matchup, tossing all 7 innings and allowing only 1 run on 3 hits.  Lyle struck out 5 and finished 1-2 with an RBI at the plate.  Joel Littlepage went 1-3 with a run and an RBI to lead the offense.

Peabody 5, Summertown 4
William Pickard helped lead the Golden Tide over Summertown by finishing 2-3 with 2 RBIs to keep their State Championship hopes alive.  Hunter Hudson hit a home run and drove in 3 runs, while Timothy Fields and Landon Pickard each scored 2 runs.  Hudson also earned the W on the mound.

Gordonsville 3, Greenback 1
Adam Goolsby hit a home run and drove in all 3 Gordonsville runs on Wednesday morning to help keep the Tigers' season alive.  Bobby Parliment earned the W on the mound by striking out 11 and allowing only 4 hits over his 7 innings of work.

Loretto 8, Huntingdon 2
Jacob Laws dealt 6 innings of 1-hit baseball to help keep Loretto in the winner's bracket, striking out 6 without allowing a run.  Ryan Weathers and Jacob Hallmark combined to go 6-7 with 5 RBIs and 4 runs scored to power the Mustang offense to those 8 runs. 

Gordonsville 11, Huntingdon 6
Adam Goolsby had another big performance in Gordonsville's second win of the way, finishing 2-4 with a double, 2 runs, and 3 RBIs.  Bobby Parliment went 2-3 with a run and 2 RBIs and Mitchell Kirby scored 3 times.  Nathaniel Hall and Luke Blackburn both had 2 hits.  Hunter Mann earned the W on the mound.

 

DIVISION I – AA

CPA 5, Pigeon Forge 1
David Bates dealt 6 innings of 3-hit baseball, striking out 6 without allowing a run to lead the Lions over Pigeon Forge.  Cooper Reynolds and Seth Townsend both finished 2-4 with a run scored and Kane Patterson drove in 2. 

Covington 5, Murfreesboro Central 3
Kyle Ginn went 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and 2 runs scored to help power the Charger offense in their win over Murfreesboro Central Magnet.  Ty Warmath doubled twice, drove in a run and recorded the save, while Austin Baskin earned the W and finished 1-1 with a walk.

CPA 7, Murfreesboro Central 1
Devin McKnight came up huge for the Lions in their win-or-go-home matchup with the Tigers of Murfreesboro Central Magnet.  McKnight tossed all 7 innings and allowed only 6 hits and 1 run while striking out 3.  Kane Patterson and Knox Preston both went 2-3 and combined for 4 runs and 2 RBIs to help lead the offense.

Lexington 11, Signal Mountain 0
Lucas Buckley earned the W on the mound for Lexington, tossing 5 shutout innings and allowing only 2 hits and finishing with 4 strikeouts.  While seven Tigers finished with multiple hits, their offensive performance was highlighted by the 2-4, 3 RBI performances from Raleigh Odle and Landon Hendrix.

CAK 11, Spring Hill 7
The Warriors offense came out with some fire in their eyes, as they put up 6 in the first, 2 in the second, and 3 in the third to take out the defending state champions.  Zane Keener finished 2-4 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs and struck out the side in the bottom of the 7th inning to close it out.  Jesse Osborne homered and recorded 2 hits, 2 runs, and 3 RBIs in the win.

Lexington 6, Spring Hill 3
Michael Draeger and Tucker White combined to go 5-7 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs to help power the Lexington offense over the Raiders of Spring Hill.  Raleigh Odle earned the W on the mound by striking out 7 over 5.2 innings of work and Evan Gilliam tallied the save.

 

DIVISION I – AAA

Dobyns-Bennett 4, Munford 1
Daniel Starnes dominated the game from both sides of the baseball to lead Dobyns-Bennett to a win-or-go-home victory over Munford.  Starnes finished 2-2 with a home run and 3 RBIs at the plate, while earning the W on the mound by striking out 5 without allowing an earned run in a complete-game effort.  Kellen Glasscock went 2-3.

Brentwood 6, Blackman 2
Josh Galloway put together a solid performance on the mound to give the Bruins a great chance at victory on Tuesday afternoon.  Galloway allowed only 2 runs on 5 hits through 7 innings of work to earn the W on the mound.  Jackson Pope and Carson Shacklett combined to go 5-6 and Mason Keidel hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 7th to clinch it.  

Dobyns-Bennett 4, Blackman 3
Tanner Doran threw 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 strikeouts to earn the victory in a huge game against the Blackman Blaze.  Jeremiah Ball earned the save by tossing a flawless 7th and Parker Hill finished 3-3 with an RBI and a  run scored to lead the offense.

Houston 7, Beech 6
The top of the Mustang offense came to play in their do-or-die matchup with Beech on Wednesday morning.  Terrell Tatum went 2-3 with a double, 3 runs, and 2 RBIs and Barrone Porter finished 2-4 with 2 RBIs.  Trever Thorp earned the W on the mound, tossing 6 innings and allowing only 1 earned run.

Jefferson County 3, Stewarts Creek 0
Brandon Saylor dealt a complete-game shutout to guide the Patriots to a victory in the winner's bracket.  Saylor allowed only 3 hits and struck out 5 in his 7 innings of work.  Tyler Shaver, Jonathan Royster, and Matt Bradley combined to go 6-8 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs to power the offense in the low-scoring affair.

Stewarts Creek 4, Houston 1 (12 innings)
In the longest game of the 2017 state tournament, the Red Hawks of Stewarts Creek found a way to pull out the victory in 12 innings over Houston.  Daniel Freeman threw the first 8.2 innings and allowed only 1 run on 3 hits and finished 2-6 with a run and 2 RBIs at the plate.  Corey Perkins went 2-5 with an RBI and Houston scored its only run on a Terrell Tatum home run.

 

DIVISION II – A

Harding Academy 5, St. George's 1
Ty Wooton went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and Jared Kirkman scored twice to lead the Harding Academy offense.  Casey Harford dominated on the mound, tossing a 2-hitter and striking out 5 without allowing an earned run.

ECS 3, USJ 2
Colin Jones put up one of the most impressive stat lines of the state tournament, dealing 6 innings and striking out 12 without a walk.  Jones allowed only 5 hits and 1 run.  Keegan Westbrook and Josh Rooker powered the Eagle offense by combining to go 3-6 with 2 RBIs.  Hunter Childress recorded the walk-off RBI on an infield fielder's choice.

USJ 13, Harding Academy 1
Gehrig Rabun came up huge for the Bruins, tossing all 6 innings and allowing only 1 unearned run on 3 hits.  Cade Sammons and Eli Brauss both went 2-3 and combined for 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored on the night.

 

DIVISION II – AA

Greenbrier 1, Pope John Paul II 0
Hugh Fisher was virtually unhittable on Wednesday evening, tossing 6.2 innings and striking out 9 Knights without allowing a run.  Fisher only gave up 2 hits.  Trey Harrington came on to get the last out and earn the save and DJ Robinson drove in the only run of the game.

Brentwood Academy 8, McCallie 2
The middle of the Brentwood Academy lineup came up huge, as Griffin Hodge, Bryce Jarvis, and Alex Reynolds combined to go 6-11 with 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored in the victory.  Graham Tulloch earned the W on the mound by tossing all 7 innings and allowing only 6 hits and 2 runs while striking out 10.

McCallie 5, Briarcrest 1
Jackson Mathis dominated the game from both sides of the baseball, tossing all 7 innings and allowing only 1 run on 4 hits and 10 strikeouts and finishing 2-3 with 2 runs and an RBI at the plate.  JD Day went 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
