Here is a look at some of the scores and highlights from yesterday's State Tournament action.

 

DIVISION II – CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
FRANKLIN ROAD ACADEMY 8, Harding Academy 1
Peyton Warren led the FRA Panthers to their 2016 state championship by going 3-4 with a triple, a run, and 3 RBI in the opening game at MTSU on Thursday.  Warren also closed the game out, throwing the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit.  Kenny Cooper and Woody Weicker each had two hits, as well.  Walker Palmerton had a hit, scored a run, and got the win by dealing the first 5.1 innings, allowing only 5 hits and 1 run.  Ty Wooton had a hit and an RBI for Harding Academy.

DIVISION II – CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
CHRISTIAN BROTHERS 6, Brentwood Academy 1
Hayden Leatherwood’s 2 triples, 1 run, and 3 RBI helped lead the Purple Wave to their second consecutive state championship.  John Bland went 2-4 with 2 runs and an RBI and Weston Bizzle finished 2-3 with an RBI, as well.  Michael Feather got the win, throwing the entire game and only allowing 1 run on 7 hits.  Feather struck out 3.  Conner Woodlee had two hits for Brentwood Academy.


Scotts Hill 5, Loretto 4
Austin Branham led the Scotts Hill attack, going 3-3 with 2 RBI in Thursday’s semi-final matchup.  Hunter Beecham went 2-3 and scored a run for the Lions, as well.  Thomas Kimmel had a hit and got the win on the mound, throwing a scoreless 7th inning.  Loretto’s Jacob Laws went 3-4 with 2 RBI and a run in the loss.

Knoxville Grace 8, Jackson Christian 6
Noah Gent led the way for the Rams in their victory on Thursday, hitting a home run and finishing 2-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored.  Micah Wheeler also hit a home run and Taylor Lawson went 2-3 with 2 runs scored.  Wheeler also recorded the win on the mound, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs in 6 innings of work, striking out 5.  Miles Humphreys and Hunter Higdon each had 3 hits for Jackson Christian in the loss. 

Spring Hill 13, Milan 3
Spring Hill was led into the championship game by Matthew Joslin and his 3-3 effort on Thursday afternoon.  Joslin hit a home run, scoring 3 runs and driving in 5.  Hunter Whitwell and Taylor Warwick both went 2-4 and combined for 4 runs and 4 RBI, as well.  Colton Teal got the complete-game victory for the Raiders.

CPA 3, Chester County 2
The top four hitters in the CPA lineup all had one hit, three of which were doubles by Sam Knell,  Jacob Webster, and Phillip Clarke.  Knell and Webster each scored a run, as Webster recorded the only RBI for the Lions.  Lane Harris got the win, throwing the final 2 innings and allowing only one hit and striking out 2.  CPA scored 2 of their 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning.  Nick Armour and Brian Napoli each had 2 hits for Chester County. 

Arlington 7, Stewarts Creek 4
Ian Bibiloni and Braden Melton each went 2-4, helping to lead Arlington to the state championship game.  Bibiloni scored 2 runs and Melton added a run and an RBI for the Tigers.  Tate Kolwyck hit a home run and Tyler Gentry drove in 2 runs, as well.  Ryan Taylor came in relief of Gentry on the mound and held Stewarts Creek scoreless over the final 3.2 innings.  Gresham Mosley and Corey Perkins each had two hits for the Red Hawks. 

Siegel 9, Summit 5 (Game 1)
The Stars got a 3-4, 3 RBI performance out of Alex Carignan and a 2-3, 2 RBI, 2 run performance out of Ryker Kristinus.  One of Kristinus’ hits was a home run and Carignan had a double.  Zach Pearson and Matthew McCurry each had 2 hits for Siegel, as well.  Seth Petry came out of the bullpen and threw the final 5.2 innings, allowing only 3 hits and earning the win.  Chris McElvain had 2 hits for Summit in the loss. 

Siegel 3, Summit 2 (Game 2)
Siegel needed an extra inning to earn their place in Friday’s state championship game, as they allowed a game-tying run in the bottom of the 7th and came back to score the game-winning run in the top of the 8th.  Tyler Kirkland had a hit and scored a run, while Drew Benefield drove in 2 runs.  Alex Carignan got the win for the Stars.  Chris McElvain threw all 8 innings for the Spartans, striking out 10 and only allowing 1 earned run.  Wil Dalton also had 3 hits for Summit in the loss.
