Daily Roundup: May 8 Games



Southfield 5, Berkley 1: Southfield got two hits from Brent Kline and three from Eric Singleton in the win while David Cole was masterful on the mound. T.J. Squires went 2-3 for Berkley.

Pontiac 7, Ferndale 1: Sophomore DeShawn Cole threw a complete game for the victorious Phoenix and had eight strikeouts in the process. His older brother Dazon had a pair of hits and a pair of stolen bases in the win.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 9, Riverview Gabriel Richard 5: Aidan Cullen hit a three-run bomb and Mike Wayne chipped in a pair of hits and RBIs for the victorious Fighting Irish.

Walled Lake Western 1-9, Waterford Mott 0-7: MSU commit Andrew Gonzalez struck out twelve in a complete game three-hit shutout for Walled Lake Western in the opener. Brandon Mazell had a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs for Western in the nightcap.

Brighton 6-9, Milford 2-8: Sophomore Alexx Zielinski threw a complete game in the opener for Milford while Josh Corey allowed only three earned runs in six innings for Milford. In the nightcap Jake Johnson hit a home run and went 3-3 while Trevor Emme went 2-2. Blake Pokorski had four hits in the doubleheader.

Waterford Kettering 5-0, White Lake Lakeland 4-5: Noah Stinson had a pair of hits in the first game for Waterford Kettering while Dalton Bedgood got the win in relief. In the second game Jack Flynn had a hit for Lakeland and Josh Martin had two.

Ortonville Brandon 9-6, Flint Carman-Ainsworth 6-4

Clarkston 7-2, Rochester Adams 6-9: Nick Mazzone, an Ohio Dominican recruit, had two hits in the first game for Clarkston while Jordan Cox pitched three perfect innings of relief. Adams got a complete game from Mike Surinck in the second game.

Walled Lake Northern 3-9, Walled Lake Central 0-7: In the first game, senior Hunter Van Maele threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts for Walled Lake Northern. Junior Corey Williams had two RBIs in the nightcap for Northern.

Lake Orion 7-1, Oxford 1-2: In the opener, Nick Deeg, a CMU recruit, threw a one-hitter with fifteen strikeouts for Lake Orion while Roman Kuster and Connor Grant each chipped in two hits. In the nightcap, Nate Brubaker threw a gem for Oxford and outdueled Lake Orion's highly touted Brad Schaenzer. Schaenzer allowed only two hits while fanning eleven. Brubaker struck out five Lake Orion Dragons while only walking one and allowing only five hits.

Rochester 10-2, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek 7-14: Joe Cox threw a complete game five-hitter in the nightcap for Stoney Creek.

Warren De La Salle 7-1, Orchard Lake St. Mary's 1-2: Freshman Griffin Sheposh hit a walkoff single for Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the nightcap. Conor Bowers threw three perfect innings for St. Mary's in the nightcap. In the first game, Zach Bell struck out eight in six innings for De La Salle while only allowing one earned run.

Warren Cousino 3, Madison Heights Lamphere 0: Sophomore Chris Stewart threw a five-hit shutout with five strikeouts for Cousino.

Livonia Clarenceville 15, Dearborn Fordson 2

Kelloggsville 11, Godwin Heights 2: Nate Kies threw six innings and had two RBIs for Kelloggsville.

West Bloomfield 6-9, Farmington 4-8: Sophomore Chandler Sedat ran his record to 5-0 for the West Bloomfield Lakers as he threw a complete game in the opener.

Alpena 14, Gaylord 0: Mark Hansen threw 2 1/3 perfect innings for Gaylord in the loss.

Howell 4-10, Pinckney 3-3: Senior Brandon White struck out ten in nine innings for Pinckney in the opening game loss.

Hartland 2-4, Grand Blanc 1-3: Jake Lowery, a MSU recruit, struck out fourteen in nine innings in the opener. Stephen Milarch had three hits on the day and freshman John Baker had two.

Detroit East English 8, Detroit Osborn 0

Grosse Pointe South 8, Sterling Heights Stevenson 1: Jimmy Menchl had four hits for South while Eddie Champane threw a complete game and struck out five. George Fishback, a Kalamazoo recruit, hit a double for the victorious Blue Devils.

Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 10, Ann Arbor Greenhills 2

Livonia Stevenson 9-5, South Lyon East 5-1

Woodhaven 3-1, Allen Park 0-7: Layne Gusler threw a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in the opener for Woodhaven.

Macomb Dakota 6, Utica Eisenhower 5 (14 innings): Travis Perkola struck out 12 in seven innings for Dakota. Andrew Manduzzi chipped in three hits. MSU recruit Dan Chmielewski had three hits for Eisenhower in the loss.

L'Anse Creuse North 4, Chippewa Valley 1: Mike Michalski struck out five for LCN while Nick Ivone hit a bases loaded two-run single.

St. Clair 11, Utica Ford 0: Junior Nolan Young had five RBIs including a grand slam for St. Clair. Hayden Robbins had three hits while the Meldrum twins each had two hits. Jared Tobey struck out seven and tossed a one-hitter.

Romeo 5, Warren Mott 0: Alec Padilla threw a one-hit shutout and struck out fourteen for the victorious Bulldogs. Derek Staelgraeve had two hits, Eric Shankin tripled, and Josh Hinkley stole two bases for Romeo.

Fraser 4, Marine City 2: Aaron Latessa got the victory in relief for Fraser. Scott Latessa tied the game in the sixth with a two-run double.
