Upstate 8 Valley

Lake Park 2, South Elgin 0
Lake Park (21-6; 17-3) blanked South Elgin behind Porsche Player of the Week Christian Taugner. Taugner fired a four-hit shutout at the Storm with 12 strikeouts. Taugner improves to 7-1 with the win and lowers his ERA to 0.70 with 83 strikeouts in the 50 innings.  

Central Suburban South

No. 9 Glenbrook South 8, Maine South 2
Glenbrook South (20-3; 11-2) crushed Maine South (18-7; 10-5) and clinched a tie for the CSL South title with a resounding victory over the defending CSL-champs in Park Ridge. Senior Kyle Pauley struck out 10 Hawks in his game-winning 6 2/3 innings of work. Pauley allowed two runs and eight hits. Pauley helped himself at the plate with a single triple and a Titan RBI. Michael Potter led the Titan attack with three singles and two RBI.

DuPage Valley

No. 10 Naperville Central 5, Naperville North 1
Naperville Central (19-5; 14-3) rolled past city-rival Naperville North behind University of Minnesota-bound RHP Cody Campbell (4-0). Campbell scattered six hits and allowed one through his five innings of work to pick up the win. Campbell struck out nine and walked five. Creighton-bound SS Nick Lopez had a single double and drove home a Redhawk run. Redhawk leadoffman Jason Wegner added a double and an RBI for the DVC leaders.

No. 21 Wheaton North 3, Glenbard North 2
Wheaton North (20-6; 12-5) scored three times in the third to slip past the Panthers on Thursday in Wheaton. Jake Harper led the Falcon attack with two singles and an RBI while LHP Sam Nafziger (3-1) fired a six-hitter at GBN.

N. Illinois Big 12 West

Ottawa 10, Sterling 7
Ottawa (18-2; 11-0) scored four times in the top of the ninth and held off the Golden Warriors in the bottom of the ninth to win for the 13th straight time. Kyle Wallbaum continued his hot-hitting with two more hits including a triple and two more RBI. Tabor Griglione added a double and two RBI while Brazon Wheeler chipped in with two singles three runs scored and an RBI for the plundering and pillaging Pirates.

Southwest Prairie

Minooka 4, Romeoville 2
Minooka (19-7; 15-3) swept away the Spartans to retain first-place in the SWSC. Lewis University-bound Joe Carnagio led the Indian attack with two singles and two RBI. Max Brozovich chipped in with two hits and an RBI. RHP Steve Szymanski fired 5 2/3 innings allowing two runs and four hits with five strikeouts to get the win. Indian closer Trevor Maly retired all four Spartan hitters he faced to nail down the save. Brozovich is now hitting .463 with two homers and 25 RBI to lead Minooka who won for the 10th consecutive game.

Southwestern

Belleville West 9 No.23 O’Fallon 5
Belleville West (16-9; 9-3) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth and went on to defeat O’Fallon (20-9; 9-3) and joined the Panthers atop the SWC standings on Thursday. Senior Nick VanOsdale led the 13-hit Maroon attack with two singles and three RBI. Senior C Austin Bammer singled and plated two Maroon runs. Junior Parker Beine continued his hot-hitting with three more hits and an RBI while senior Aaron Meyer was 2-for-2 with an RBI.  

Edwardsville 11, Granite City 1
Edwardsville (22-8; 9-4) crushed Granite City in five innings and pulled within a half-game of SWC co-leaders O’Fallon and Belleville West. Future St. Louis University Billikin Drew Curtis drove home five Tiger runs with a pair of singles while Jake Fisher went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple plating two Tiger runs. Alex Pizzini singled and drove home two while Brock Weimer was 2-for-2 with a single double and an RBI. Zach Sparks (5-2) allowed an unearned run and five hits in four innings to pick up the win on the mound. Curtis had 8 bombs and 34 RBI with a 363 batting average for the Tigers in 2013

Nonconference

No. 7 Downers Grove South 15, Proviso West 0
Downers Grove South (25-5-1) destroyed Proviso West in five innings on Thursday behind University of Iowa-bound Zack Burdi. Burdi was 3-for-3 at the plate with two bombs and three RBI. Senior 3B Kevin Raher tripled and drove home four Mustang runs. RHPs Chris Pedrak and Matt Zinnecker fired a combined two-hit shutout with Pedrak picking up the win. Pedrak allowed two hits in his three scoreless innings to get the win and Zinnecker fired two hitless innings against the Panthers. Each Mustang hurler struck out five.  

No. 8 Harrisburg 11, Webber Twp. 0
Harrisburg (26-3) crushed WT in six innings behind a four-hitter from senior RHP Cody Hall (7-1) and POY candidate Ryne Roper. Roper continued his assault on the baseball this spring with another bomb his ninth of the season and five RBI. Sophomore Cooper Thompson added three hits and an RBI and Justin Younger hammered a solo-shot for the ‘Dogs.  

No. 17 Carmel 2, Libertyville 1
Carmel (20-4) won a thriller at Libertyville, scoring a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 1-1 and then winning the game with a run in the top of the eighth. The cardiac-Corsairs were down to their last out when Ian Kristan singled home the tying run in the top of the seventh.

Once again with two outs the Corsairs struck again in the top of the eighth. Corsair leadoffman Sean Brennan picked a great time for his first hit of the game after being retired in his four previous trips to the plate. Brennan’s game-winner plated Duncan Amrein to give Carmel a 2-1 lead. Corsair RHP Andy Kantor mowed down the Wildcats in the bottom of the eighth to pick up the win. Kantor fired 2 2/3 hitless innings of relief to pick up the win.

Lyons Township 3 Hinsdale South 0
Lyons Township (17-9) blanked WSC-Gold leader Hinsdale South (19-7) behind a combined shutout from junior Sam Heilenbach and Zach Carlson. Junior Max Larsen tripled and scored on a deep sac-fly by Jim Pavlic to give the duo all the runs they would need.

Downers Grove North 12, Leyden 1
Downers Grove North (17-7) routed the Eagles in five innings on Thursday. SIU-bound Connor Kopach was 3-for-3 with a double with three runs scored and three RBI to lead the Trojan attack. Joe Provenzano also was 3-for-3 with a triple and three ribbies for the Trojans. Troy Southard chipped in with a single and two RBI. RHP Matt Bohanon (1-1) fired a four-hitter with three strtikeouts to pick up the win on the mound for DGN. Kopach is hitting .400 with three homers and 17 RBI for the Trojans.

Central Suburban North

Glenbrook North, 5 Highland Park 0
Glenbrook North (19-7; 9-4) blanked the Giants behind a four-hit shutout from Spartan RHP Jake DeRousse. DeRousse had 12 punch-outs. Red-Hot Spartan TJ Tedeschi had two more hits including a double and two RBI to lead the CSL-North leaders.

Deerfield 5, Niles North 2
Deerfield (16-8; 8-5) used the long-ball to defeat the Vikings on Thursday and keep pace with Glenbrook North. Red-Hot Xander Horwitz hammered another two-run bomb while Ben Browdy added a two-run shot and singled. Warrior starting and winning pitcher Dylan Wallace allowed two runs and five hits with six strikeouts in his five innings of work on the mound.

East Suburban Catholic

Notre Dame 4, Benet Academy 3
Notre Dame (11-19; 4-10) won in walk-off fashion and dealt a serious blow to the ESCC title hopes of Benet Academy (16-7; 8-4). Dion Ursino doubled home freshman Mike Ferri with the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Ursino danced home with the game-winner on Danny Hyde’s long sac-fly as the Don contingent joyfully danced onto Dempster Avenue after the Don walk-off win.

Interstate 8 Crossovers

Manteno 4, Westmont 2
Manteno surprised I-8 North leader Westmont (23-5; 12-3 North) at home on Thursday. The Panthers won behind a combined six-hitter from Panther junior RHP Drew Nichols and senior LHP Jack Liss. Nichols allowed two runs and four hits in his 3 2/3 innings of work and was given credit for the win. Liss was lights-out firing of 3 1/3 innings of shutout relief and should have been awarded the victory instead garnered the save. Westmont’s super-sophomore SS Charlie Donovan hit a two-run bomb for the Sentinels.

Fox Valley Valley

Huntley 12 Cary-Grove 0
Huntley (21-3; 17-3) crushed Cary-Grove (16-8; 10-5) in five innings on Thursday. Red Raider junior Eric Luecht fired a three-hitter at the Trojans with three strikeouts. University of Louisville-bound Colin Lyman doubled and plated three runs while red-hot Tommy Kiriakopoulos had two more hits, including a triple and drove home two more runs. Tyler Mindak and Bryce Only each chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI.  

Mid-Suburban Crossover

Rolling Meadows 10, Barrington 4
MSL-East leader Rolling Meadows (15-8-1, 13-1 East) hammered MSL-West champion Barrington (18-9-1; 12-2 West). Meadows C Mike Dolan was 3-for-3 with a homer and five RBI to lead the Mustang assault on the Broncos. Dan Hendrickson continued his all-out assault on the baseball with three more hits and three RBI. With the victory Meadows clinched a tie for MSL-East crown.

Elk Grove 9, Fremd 5
Elk Grove (19-7; 11-3 East) trailed the Vikings 3-0 after four innings and then exploded for three in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the ninth to win in Palatine. One of the serious contenders for PBR Name of the Year, Johnny Assimakopoulos, led the Grenadier attack on Thursday. Assimakopoulos homered, tripled and plated five huge runs to lead the Grenadier come-back. Petar Arbov chipped in with a pair of singles and an RBI. RHP Alex Tinkoff (4-1) allowed one earned run and six in his 5 2/3 innings of work to pick up the win.  

Palatine 5, Schaumburg 2
Palatine (15-11; 9-5) rolled past Schaumburg behind senior ace RHP Nolan Gavin. Gavin (6-0) allowed two runs and six hits in his 6 2/3 innings of work to pick up the win. Pirate RH closer Jarrod Juskiewicz ended the game with a flourish when he blew away the final Saxon hitter on strikes for his third save of the season. Matt Hogan had a pair of doubles and an RBI to lead the Pirate attack. Greg Grana chipped in with a double and an RBI for the Pirates.

Metro Suburban

Riverside Brookfield 7, Fenton 0
Riverside-Brookfield (25-3-1; 13-2) swept away Fenton behind a white-wash of Fenton on Thursday. Bulldog starting and winning pitcher Tom Leary fired five shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Red-hot junior Will Kincanon had two hits including a homer while Alex Nenandovic also went deep for RB.

Glenbard South, Illiana Christian
Glenbard South (15-7; 11-4) salvaged a victory in its three-game set with Illiana Christian (10-9; 9-5) on Thursday. Will Cornwell led the Raider attack with three singles and an RBI. Justin Joseph chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI.

Mississippi

Trenton-Wesclin 8, Columbia 5
Trenton Wesclin (17-6; 8-1) grabbed an 8-1 lead and hung on to defeat the Columbia (18-7; 4-4) on Thursday Warrior senior Chase Brown had two singles and drove home four for the MC leaders. Sophomore Josh Brown chipped in with a single and two RBI.

N. Illinois Big 12 East

Morris 12, Kaneland 4
Morris (22-6; 10-5) swept away Kaneland behind senior Ryan Borgstrom, who had three singles and drove home three Redskin runs. Redskin senior Jake Capko singled doubled and had two RBI. Junior RHP Trevor Lines fired a four-hitter at the Knights. All four Kaneland runs were unearned.

Nonconference

U-High 6, Chicago Christian 4
