The Delaware Preseason ID took place on Saturday, February 27. Over 30 players from across Maryland and Delaware were in attendance showcasing their talent in front of the PBR Maryland staff.

Over the course of the next week we will be releasing the positional analysis articles with detailed scouting reports on each player in attendance. We shall also identify top performers in each positional category along with a younger talent (2018 and younger) as a Future Watch if applicable.

Today we take a look at the catchers, first basemen, and outfielders that participated in the event.  A talented pool with many players deserving of Top Performer recognition.

TOP PERFORMERS

Brandt Penuel C Smyrna 2017
Athletic, durable frame at 6-foot, 170-pounds. Hits from an athletic, slightly open setup. Good rhythm throughout swing with balance. Short simple load with level swing path and fast bat speed. Gap-to-gap type hitter with some power potential. Nice extension through contact. Exit velocity of 85 mph. Receives from an athletic low set up. Sound footwork and exchange on throws. Soft hands and sticks ball well. Short arm action with carry on his throws at 76 mph. Nice hip control. Pop time as low at 1.98. Solid catching prospect to keep an eye on.

Bryan Bell C Bohemia Manor 2017
Athletic durable frame at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up.  Nice rhythm and balance throughout swing. Smooth load to footstrike. Has a short swing to the ball and stays inside well. Creates some extension through contact. Gets lower half involved and has potential pop to the pull side. Simple at the plate with smooth swing. Receives from an athletic set up behind the plate. Soft hands and tracks ball smooth. Clean exchange behind the plate with sound footwork. Throws have some carry on them to second. Exchange gets low at times. Interesting prospect in the 2017 class and one to keep an eye on.

Connor Stevens C Middletown (MD) 2017
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Hits from a athletic, slightly stacked setup. Short load to hitting position. Level swing path with some bat speed. Gets around ball at times. Gap-to-gap type hitter. Some balance throughout swing and gets lower half involved. Exit velocity of 81 mph. Works thru the ball well in the outfield, throws have carry on them at 85 mph. Receives from athletic set up. Soft hands, sticks ball.  Athletic set up for throws. Quick feet and exchange. Lower exchange with short arm action and quick arm speed. Throws have carry at 80 mph for a pop that got as low as 1.90. Ran a 4.32 home to first.

FUTURE WATCH

Carson Fowler OF/LHP Mount Pleasant 2018
Lanky frame with room to grow at 5-foot-9, 145-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Smooth load to hitting position. Level swing path with some bat speed. Pull type hitter. Direct to the ball. Shows balance throughout swing and gets a bit on backside through finish. Exit velocity of 79 mph and ran a 4.21 home to first. Clean hands and exchange from the outfield. Works thru the ball well and creates good momentum in throws. Loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws have carry on them at 85 mph.

Brett Brooks C St. Elizabeth 2018
Projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Hits from a slightly stacked, athletic set up. Smooth load back to hitting position. Level bat path with average bat speed. Middle type hitter. Good balance throughout swing. Exit velocity of 72 mph. 4.75 home to first. Athletic set up behind the plate. Quick feet and exchange throwing down to second.  Exchanges low. Short arm action with throws at 67 mph for a pop time as low as 2.14.

Kyle Bullard OF West Nottingham Academy 2019
Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds. Hits from a wide, slightly open set up at the plate. Load back and squares up to hitting position. Level bat path with some bat speed. Gets some lower half involvement. Shows some balance throughout swing. Exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 4.51 home to first. Active feet in the outfield. Works thru the ball. Would like to see field more out in front to better enable him to get more momentum to where he is throwing. Outfield velocity of 83 mph. Interesting young prospect in the 2019 class.

Andrew Carney OF Dover (DE) 2019
Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 172-pounds. Hits from an athletic slightly open set up. Short load and lands closed at times. Slightly uphill swing path through contact. Get some lower half and finishes on backside slightly. Quick hands and gets extension. Exit velocity of 72 mph. Sound footwork and exchange through the outfield. Throws from a high ¾ arm angle with some carry on throws at 80 mph. Moves well at first base. Clean hands and exchange. Infield velocity of 76 mph.

Richard Carey C Cape Henlopen (DE) 2017
Solid frame at 5-foot-8, 160-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up.  Smooth load back with leg kick. Has a level swing path that gets slightly uphill. Gets lower half usage in swing. Quick hands and barrels up the ball well. Has balance throughout swing and showed nice rhythm during BP. Exit velocity of 73 mph. Receives from an athletic slightly open set up. Sticks ball well. Quick feet and exchange behind the plate. Has short arm action and throws had some carry at 74 mph. Pop time as low as a 2.05. Nice receiving skills behind the plate. Solid catching prospect.

Michael Carrington 1B/RHP Dover (DE) 2019
Projectable frame at 6-foot, 205-pounds. Hits from a tall set up. Short load with leg kick. Lands lsighlty closed. Level swing path with quick hands and some bat speed. Shows some balance through contact. Potential pull side power. Exit velocity of 79 mph. Active feet in the infield. Clean hands would like to see get rid of ball more quickly. Short arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Infield velocity of 75 mph and ran a 5.21 home to first.

Robert Luke Childress 1B/RHP Severna Park 2017
Big strong frame at 6-foot-4, 235-pounds. Hits from an athletic setup. Short quick pre-load. Short path to the baseball with extension through contact. Pull side pop and power potential. Nice balance throughout swing. Get some lower half but looks to have more. Exit velocity of 90 mph and ran a 4.71 home to first. Solid footwork at first base. Clean hands and exchange with longer arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle. Throws across the infield up to 78 mph.

Cole Hitch C Indian River 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-8, 191-pounds. Hits from a wide slightly stacked setup.  Short load and squares up with double tap load. Has a level slightly up hill swing path with some bat speed. Gets lower half involved and shows some balance throughout.  Finishes slightly stacked over backside. Pull side power potential. Could get little more lower half involvement to help backside and create some more pop. Exit velocity of 79 mph. Solid foundation and looks to be a power threat as he grows and matures. Catches from a low, athletic set up. Soft hands that tracks and sticks well. Sound footwork with quick exchange. Nice hip control. Short arm action with a velocity of 66 mph which translated to a 2.18 pop time.

Christopher Richardson C Delmar 2018
Solid frame at 5-foot-11, 205-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up with high hands. Short load with small stride. Level swing path with bat speed. Gets some lower half involved and has power potential. Nice extension. Gets out of balance at times. Strong frame and gets good barrel on the baseball. Exit velocity of 83 mph.  Low athletic stance receiving.  Sticks ball well. Sound footwork with clean exchange. Short arm action and quicker feet should lower pop, which was as low at 2.07 with a 75 mph velocity.  Interesting prospect in the 2018 class.

Logan Strickland 1B/OF Smyrna (DE) 2018
Projectable frame at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds. Hits from a slightly closed set up. Sinks into load with leg kick. Short swing path and stays inside the baseball well. Gets some lower half usage and shows some balance in swing. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange and gets momentum to target. Outfield throws have velocity of 73 mph. Loose arm action throwing from a ¾ arm angle. Stays low on balls at first base. Sound exchange and throws across the infield at 68 mph.
