Division II Team Of The Week: Bishop Watterson

COLUMBUS - This is the last year of coaching for Watterson’s Scott Manahan.

So why not go out in a blaze of glory?

Seven consecutive wins has Manahan’s squad at 10-2 on the season and with it the Prep Baseball Report Division II Team of the Week.

“We’re very fortunate to have pitching depth,” explained Manahan, now in his 34th year as a head baseball coach. “That’s helped immensely. Pitching well has been a key so far for us, along with timely hitting.”

Adam Fallan (Video) has done both well for Watterson, the 10th-ranked D-II team in the state in the latest PBR ratings. The senior second baseman, a left-handed hitting Bowling Green commit ranked 90th in Ohio’s 2019 class, is batting a team-best .450 with five extra-base hits, seven RBIs and 13 runs scored. In addition, he has filled in as the number four hurler featuring “a good breaking ball that he throws for strikes” according to Manahan.

Junior Noah Truax is another providing a strong stick along with a big arm for Watterson. The 5-7 150-pounder, who plays shortstop when not pitching, is 2-0 with a 0.447 ERA in 15.2 innings, while also carrying a .359 batting average.

Drake McAninch, a 6-5 225-pound senior left-handed pitcher ranked 142nd in the state, headlines the pitching staff for the Eagles. The Ashland commit is 3-0 with a 0.764 ERA in 18.1 innings.

Ryan Roark, is the number three hurler while also helping out with his bat, driving in nine runs with a .353 average while seeing time at first base when not on the mound.

“We’re going to be running into a good group of teams in our league and our non-league schedule is also tough,” Manahan pointed out about what is head for his squad. “We’re going to have to keep pitching well. If it’s our strength, we need to roll with it.”

With Easter holiday this week, Watterson only has two games scheduled highlighted by Wednesday’s encounter with Bishop Ready.

“Good pitching and timely hitting can take you far,” the veteran mentor said. “If you do that you’re chance of success is there. But one bad day can change it.”

A veteran coach like Manahan should know.
