Downers Grove North Advances Past Wheaton Warrenville South

WHEATON, IL - Wheaton Warrenville South and Downers Grove North opened up the regional quarter finals of the IHSA Playoffs on Tuesday, with the Trojans of Downers Grove North topping the Tigers of Wheaton Warrenville South 6-5.

The Tigers took a one-run lead into the 6th inning but the Trojans would battle back. Sophomore center fielder Cameron Demos delivered the big hit in the frame, a one out RBI triple down the right-field line. Demos would later score the go-ahead and winning run on a sacrifice fly by Ben Johnson. The sacrifice fly gave Downers Grove North the 6-5 lead going into the 7th inning .

The Trojans went to reliever Matt Carbon to nail down the save. The right-hander went the final 1.2 innings, allowing one hit, no runs and struck out two.  

Downers Grove North struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. Scott Jakobsze drove in Jack Carr who led off the inning with a single. Jakobsze later scored on an infield single by Johnson.

Wheaton Warrenville South struck back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs to take the early 3-2 lead. Mitchell Sandleback delivered one of his three hits on the day in the inning and later scored. Matt Brodhead and Matt Zablock would both come around to score also in the inning.

With the win Downers Grove North advances to play Neuqua Valley in the regional semi finals on Wednesday at Yorkville.
