Early runs, Ayers and McIntosh led Columbus North

Columbus, IN – Four runs in the bottom of the first were all Columbus North needed to get a win over Fishers on Thursday. North’s rally started with one out when Will Bowman (2012) singled to left field. Hunter McIntosh (2012) followed that up with a double into the left centerfield gap. With runners on second and third CJ Dennis came up and hit a line drive double down the right field line that just stayed fair to plate two runs. After an out and a hit by pitch Freshman Devin Mann stepped up and hit a double of his own to plate to more runs.

Columbus North threw out two of the better arms in the state against Fishers. LHP Daniel Ayers (2013, Western Michigan commit) started on the mound. Ayers sat 86-87 during the game touching 88. He kept the Fishers hitters off balance for most of the game mixing in his curve and change. Ayers got the win throwing five innings allowing one hit, two runs, and striking out ten. Unsigned Senior Hunter McIntosh came in for the final two innings allowing just one and striking out five to pick up the save. McIntosh sat 85-86 in his two innings and showed a plus slider.

In the seventh Fishers looked ready to make a comeback with two outs they had the tying runners on bases with cleanup hitter Blake Bumgartner (2012) up to bat. After a long at bat McIntosh delivered a fastball around the knees to get a called third strike an end the game. Columbus North - 4, Fishers - 2.

Fishers started sophomore Griffin Hulecki who sat 79-82 touching 83 on several occasions. After the first inning Hulecki settled in and allowed just three hits and no more runs, in his next five innings.
