By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

Last Saturday, we handed out our first invitations to the Top Prospect Games scheduled for June 7th-8th at the beautiful Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, AR to the top performers from our Elite Underclass Showcase in January. Today we take a closer look at each athlete that received their invite:

2017 OF McCall Dail Conway HS

Dail is a 5-foot-9 170-pound outfielder with an athletic frame and build. Dail impresses with his athleticism running a 4.13 home to first and a 6.92 in the 60. Defensively he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork. He throws with a short arm action with velocity up to 78 mph. He has shown to have an accurate arm with carry. Offensively he starts with an athletic stance with a slight load. He attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and a line drive swing. He has an advanced approach at the plate understanding what his strength and weaknesses are. Overall Dail is a good athlete that will continue to get better as he focuses on baseball

2017 CIF/RHP Shelby Quiggins Maumelle HS

Quiggins is a 6-foot-5 210-pound corner infielder with a large frame and an average build. Offensively he was one of the more impressive players in the event producing exit velocities up to 89 mph. He is a left-handed that starts from a wide stance. He uses a slight and small stride. He attacks the baseball with a line drive swing that stays in the hit zone on a consistent basis. Defensively he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork and a normal exchange. He throws the baseball 79 mph across the infield with accuracy. Overall Quiggins is a solid left-handed hitter with a ton of projectablilty.

2017 RHP Aaron Frazier Watson Chapel HS

Frazier is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-hander with a large frame and an athletic build.  He pitches from an H ¾ arm slot with a short quick arm action. He repeats his mechanics which allows him to throw strikes on a consistent basis. He would benefit from staying in his lower half longer and not leaking to home plate. He threw his fastball 82-84 mph with slight run. His changeup was thrown with near fastball arm speed 71-73 with arm side run and depth. Overall Frazier has two solid pitches and projects to throw much harder as he continues to mature as a player.

2017 RHP/CIF River Hunt Sylvan Hills HS

Hunt is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed pitcher with a large frame and an average build. He commanded his fastball 81-83 mph with late life through the strike zone. He complimented his fastball with a 11/5 curveball thrown at 68-71 mph. He also threw a changeup 72-74 mph with near fastball arm speed that gave the pitch added deception. Mechanically Hunt works from an H ¾ arm slot with a quick loose arm. He works from a drop and drive balance point, he would benefit from more balance before delivery the pitch. He does command the strike zone with all three pitches. Overall Hunt is a projectable player with some arm strength, if he can clean up some timing issues his velocity should increase.

2017 MIF Justin Hines Bentonville HS

Hines is a 5-foot-7 140-pound middle infielder with a small frame and a thin build. Defensively Hines shows fluid footwork and soft hands as he plays through the baseball. He has a quick exchange and throws the baseball 82 mph across the infield. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance with a slight load. He attacks the baseball with a line drive swing that produces exit velocities of 80 mph. He does a good job maintaining balance throughout his swing to extension. Overall Hines is a polished player who just needs to add strength. As this happens he will be a solid collegiate player.
