Prep Baseball Report

FW Carroll's Grant Wilson Commits

PBR: What are your current stats for FW Carroll?

Wilson:  I'm batting .333 with 20 Rbis, 3 home runs and 4 doubles this season.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?

Wilson:  Last summer I played for the Summit City Sluggers under Coach Sebastian and this summer I’m going to play on a local team in Ft. Wayne.

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio Northern?

Wilson:  I chose Ohio Northern for multiple reasons!  Right when I stepped on campus I knew it was the right fit for me! The new coaching staff and Coach Stechschulte and Coach Ehrnsberger, definitely are the type of coaches I have dreamed of having at the next level. They know the game, have energy, and want to win more than anything! I mainly chose them for their highly regarded academics. I'm majoring in Construction Management and hope to master in Historic Preservation. The small feel of the campus makes it great to know everyone and the teachers will get to know me personally.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Wilson:  I was considering IPFW, Earlham, Franklin, Dayton and Huntington, and possibly walking on at Purdue.

PBR: Where did Ohio Northern first see you compete?

Wilson:  Coach Stechschulte saw me play during the summer last year at the University of Michigan Tournament against the Michigan Elite.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Wilson:  I'm expected to be a huge part of the rebuilding of the program right away in the outfield. I'm looking to start, but I know I have to work hard to earn everything I have worked for.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Ohio Northern?

Wilson:  My biggest strength as a player has to be competing when it is crunch time in a game. When the game is on the line, I want to be the one up to bat and lead my team to victory. I feel it will help Northern when I bring my leadership to get the program into championship form.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Wilson:  There has been so many in my life it is hard to compare, so I will list them. My parents, my brother, my grandpa, Ken Jones, Coach Ginder, Park Ginder and all my teammates that have pushed me.

PBR: What was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Wilson:  The most exciting experience in summer ball had to be playing in the 17U World Series in East Cobb Georgia.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter you have faced in Indiana?

Wilson:  The toughest pitcher I have faced has been Dillon Peters of Cathedral in both the 2010 and 2011 State Championship games.

PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into the 2nd half of your senior season?

Wilson:  My individual goals are to improve my average with runners in scoring position and to improve my strength as a leader in the dugout. Our team goals are to win 20+ games and a state championship every year, and we want to continue that tradition.
