Fall Prospect Showcase-Class of 2013 and 2014 Individual Write-ups



The Fall Prospect ID Showcase on November 11th at St. Charles Community College had a good blend of unsigned seniors, as well as up and coming underclassmen, many who made a lasting impression.

With blustery wind conditions during the day, the players stepped up despite the elements to show their skills and aid in their recruiting process.

Today we bring you complete coverage of the Class of 2013 and 2014 participants (in alphabetical order):
Ryan Brady, 3B/RHP, Oakville HS, Class of 2014:
Brady has a projectable 6-foot-4, 175-pound frame. At third base, Brady showed ability to keep the ball in front of him with good range to his qlove hand side, while delivering consistently accurate throws to first base from a ¾ arm slot. Offensively, Brady has a balanced stance with an easy, level swing the produced line drives gap to gap. As Brady continues to fill out his frame, he has the potential to hit for some power.

Ben Burns, OF, Francis Howell Central HS, Class of 2013:
Burns is a 5-foot-10, 152-pound outfielder who impressed with his overall ability. At the plate, Burns has a balanced stance with a short stride. His swing, was easy and level with balance throughout, producing gap-to-gap line drives. In the outfield, Burns showed good body control to the ball with a quick transfer and all throws on a line, recording a top throw if 75-mph. 

Dion Corley, 3B, Kirkwood HS, Class of 2014:
Corley is a solidly built and athletic 6-foot-1, 170-pound third baseman. In the field, Corley showed to have sure hands with a good approach to the ball and a quick, clean glove to hand transfer. At the plate, Corley has a balanced stance with some looseness in his swing. He has extremely quick hands through the zone with level extension through contact producing line drives to all fields. Corley looks to have some raw power.

Adam Faires, RHP, Parkway North, Class of 2014:
Faires has a 6-foot, 165-pound frame and showed feel for three pitches. Coming from a ¾ arm slot, Faires showed quick arm speed with some rhythm. His fastball was thrown in the 72-75 mph range, topping at 76-mph with late arm side run. He also showed an early breaking 11-to-5 curve ball (54-55 mph) and a 62-64 mph change up down in the zone with arm side run, a pitch that could develop into an out pitch as Faires fins a bit more consistency with it.

Kristopher Howard, 2B/OF, Timberland HS, Class of 2014:
Howard showed soft hands with range to his glove hand side and accurate throws across the diamond. The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder showed a level swing at the plate, consistently barreling up the ball. At times his swing got a bit long, when he shortened it he found more consistency with line drives and some glimpses of power for a player of his size. 

Michael Lamb, 3B, St. Mary’s HS, Class of 2013:
Lamb is a strong bodied 5-foot-10, 185-pound third baseman who showed good footwork with soft hands with a quick/clean exchange while playing through the ball with a top throw of 74-mph across the diamond. At the plate, Lamb incorporates his lower half into his swing well, generating barrel whip through the zone producing power to the pull side. 

Nick Kneese, OF, Vianney, Class of 2014:
Knese is a lanky 6-foot-1, 168-pound outfielder with room to fill out his frame. In the outfield, Knese showed good instincts to the ball, quickly finding it off the bat and getting in position to throw with a smooth transfer and long arm action. At the plate, Knese has a balanced stance with a level swing, showing the ability to hit the ball on a line to all fields. With a bit more of a load, Knese should find the ability to drive the ball with some more authority. Additionally, Knese ran a 7.41 60 and had an exit velo of 79-mph.

Brendan Madden, OF, Vianney, Class of 2014:
Madden is a lanky 5-foot-11, 135-pound outfielder who showed good instincts to ball, with body control and getting in good position to throw to his target. His transfer was clean, with a top throw of 77-mph. With a bit more use of his lower half, Madden could see a few more miles per hour on his throws. Offensively, Madden has quick hands with a short, compact swing that had an uphill finish and showed the ability to effectively hit the ball to all fields. Additionally, Madden showed some speed, with a 7.03 60. 

Robert Miller, SS, Francis Howell North, Class of 2013:
Miller has an athletic 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame and showed some potential at the plate and in the field. At the plate, Miller maintains rhythm and balance throughout his swing, taking a short part to the ball staying level and working the middle of the field and right side well.  In the field, he moves well to the ball. At times he had the tendency to take his eyes off the ball a bit, when he kept his head down he showed fundamental fielding mechanics with soft hands and an accurate arm.

Nathan Mischel, OF, Oakville HS, Class of 2014:
In the outfield, the 5-foot-11, 160-pound Mischel showed good body control to the baseball, with a clean transfer while keeping his momentum toward his target delivering accurate throws. At the plate, Mischel has a balanced stance and does a good job of keeping his hands inside the ball, showing the ability to effectively pull the ball. Additionally, Mischel ran a 7.26 60.

Blake Newton, OF/2B, Timberland HS, Class of 2014:
Newton is an athletically built 5-foot-9, 165-pound outfielder. Newton showed a quick, clean exchange while playing through the ball with accurate throws to third and home (74-mph). At the plate, Newton has a good approach at the plate with no wasted movement. His swing was quick and level, spraying the ball to all fields.

Dylan Okenfuss, MIF, Mehlville HS, Class of 2014:
Okenfuss is an undersized 5-foot-8, 140-pound middle infielder who showed good approach to the ball and range to his glove hand side with accurate throws across the diamond (67-mph). At the plate, Okenfuss has a compact swing, staying level through extension  with line drives to his pull side. Additionally, Okenfuss ran a 7.21 60 and had an exit velo of 77-mph.

Drew Quinones, MIF/OF, Ft. Zumwalt South, Class of 2014:
Quinones is a strong bodied 6-foot-1, 180-pound multi-positional player who showed well in all facets of his game. In the infield, Quinones has smooth fielding mechanics with controlled movements and good footwork to the ball, showing a quick transfer and accurate throws across the diamond (73-mph) In the outfield, Quinones shows good instincts to the ball while playing through the ball. Offensively, Quinones has good rhythm, getting his front foot down quickly after his load, consistently barreling up the ball with line drives primarily to the pull side. He also showed some glimpses of power, along with an exit velo of 83-mph. Additionally, Quinones ran a 7.30 60.

Mike Schwarz, MIF, CBC, Class of 2014:
Schwarz is a wiry 6-foot-1, 157-pound middle infielder who displayed some quick bats speed, with one of the top exit velos of 80-mph. At the plate, Schwarz is quite in the box with a long stride, taking a uphill path to the ball and showing the ability to consistently find the barrel. In the field, Schwarz showed to be a sure handed fielder 

Jeremy Warden, OF/RHP, Francis Howell North HS, Class of 2013:
Warden is an athletic 5-foot-8, 150-pound outfielder who impressed with his 7.06 60 time. That speed translated to the outfield with Warden showing the ability to move quickly to the ball, with a clean exchange and accurate throws that had some carry (72-mph). Offensively, Warden has a balanced stance with a smooth load and short stride. He takes an economical path to the ball with a level swing and uphill finish, showing the ability to hit gap to gap. 

Alex Webb, MIF, SLUH, Class of 2014:
Webb is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound middle infielder who showed good footwork to the ball with a quick, clean exchange and range to his forehand side. Coming from a high ¾ arm slot, he delivered accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, Webb has an athletic set up with good rhythm. He gets his front foot down quickly and maintains his balance through the zone. At times he had the tendency to drop his hands before his swing, creating a longer swing. When he made and adjustment and kept his hands from dropping, he swing shortened up, delivering line drives. Webb ran a 7.40 60 and had an exit velo of 73-mph.
