Fall Prospect Showcase-Class of 2015 and 2016 Individual Write-ups



The Fall Prospect ID Showcase on November 11th at St. Charles Community College had a good blend of unsigned seniors, as well as up and coming underclassmen, many who made a lasting impression.

With blustery wind conditions during the day, the players stepped up despite the elements to show their skills and aid in their recruiting process.

Today we bring you complete coverage of the Class of 2015 and 2016 participants (in alphabetical order):
Tyler Alms, 3B, Parkway Central, Class of 2016:
Alms showed to be a consistent and sure handed fielder at third base. At the plate, the 5-foot-9, 145-pound Alms showed a long, uphill swing with the ability to consistently put the ball in play, using all fields. 

CJ Bates, 3B/RHP, CBC, Class of 2015:
Bates is a solidly built 5-foot-11, 185-pounds who, as he continues to progress, has some upside. On the mound, Bates showed feel for three pitches, throwing all for strikes. Coming from a high ¾ arm slot with whippy arm action, Bates’ fastball was thrown in the 75-78 mph range with late arm side run and sink. He also showed a sharp 12-to-6 breaking ball (60-62 mph) thrown with near fastball arm speed and down in the zone. He also showed a 59-61 mph knuckleball that danced with some sink as it crossed the plate. At third base, Bates moves well to the ball with sure hands and range to his glove hand size. Offensively, Bates showcased quick hands and a level, line drive producing swing with some pull side power. As he continues to progress and mature physically, he has the potential to be a consistent power hitter.

Nathan Bock, 3B, Ft. Zumwalt West, Class of 2015:
The 5-foot-9, 130-pound Bock showed a fluid swing at the plate, with the ability to hit the top half of the baseball while spraying the ball to all fields. In the field, Bock showed the ability to quickly get to the ball, with all throws across the diamond on a line and accurate.

Chris Cornelius, 3B, Vianney, Class of 2016:
Cornelius showed advanced actions in the field and at the plate for a player of his age. At third base, the 5-foot-9, 160-pound Cornelius showed quick footwork to the ball, with smooth and quick hands while delivering accurate throws across the field. At the plate, Cornelius has a balanced stance with a smooth load, good rhythm, and balance throughout his swing. His strong lower half and loose hands helped generate bat speed trough the zone, driving the ball gap to gap. Cornelius has potential to be a top level Class of 2016 player as he continues to progress.

Steven Deckard, SS/3B, Francis Howell North HS, Class of 2015:
Deckard is a strong bodied 6-foot-1, 170-pound player who showed well in all facets of his game. In the field, Deckard showed a good approach to the ball with fundamental footwork, good lateral movements, and soft hands. At the plate, Deckard showed the ability to hit for power, especially pitches on the inner half of the plate. His swing takes a short, uphill path, with barrel whip through the zone. Additionally, Deckard had one of the top exit velos at 87-mph off the bat, second highest for the underclassmen.

Avery Driggs, OF, Rockwood Summit HS, Class of 2015:
The wiry 6-foot-2, 175-pound Driggs moved well to the ball in the outfield and showed to be a consistent fielder. He has good body control to the ball with a big crown hop and long arm action, showing some carry on his accurate throws. At the plate, the left handed hitting Driggs has a slightly crouched stance with a short stride. He has loose hands, taking a short, level path to the ball and delivering consistent line drives with extension through contact and balance through his swing. Additionally, Driggs ran one of the fastest 60 times for the underclassmen with a 7.44

Thomas Garlick, MIF, Lafayette HS, Class of 2015:
Garlick is an athletic 5-foot-7, 130-pound middle infielder who showed fundamental fielding mechanics with sure hands and accurate throws across the diamond.  Offensively, Garlick has an athletic stance and does a good job of keeping his weight on his backside. He showed a long, level swing and the ability to hit the ball to all fields.

Ryan Grantham, 3B/SS, Francis Howell HS, Class of 2015:
The lanky 5-foot-10, 160-pound Grantham showed sure hands with a quick transfer and short arm action at third base, moving well to the ball. At the plate, Grantham has a crouched stance, taking a short, uphill path to the baseball showing the ability to effectively pull. When he stayed back on the ball, he drove it with authority. As his frame continues to fill out, there is some power his swing.

Ethan Lichvar, C/MIF, Ladue HS, Class of 2016:
Lichvar has a solid 5-foot-9, 155-pound frame and showed to be an effective catcher for a player of his age. During bullpen sessions, Lichvar showed a stiff wrist and soft hands, with the ability to stick balls in all parts of the zone. He also showed quick instincts with his blocking ability. He delivered pop times in the 2.01-2.20 range with accuracy. At shortstop, Lichvar has a good approach to the ball, with soft hands and a quick, clean transfer. At the plate, the switch hitter shows the ability to be effective from both sides of the plate. Hitting right handed, Lichvar showed looseness in is swing, with a controlled, easy stroke producing gap to gap line drives. Hitting from the left handed side, Lichvar take a slightly uphill path to the ball, with the ability to make consistent contact and effectively hit the ball to the right side. 

Mason King, OF, Francis Howell HS, Class of 2015:
King has a solidly built 5-foot-8, 160-pound frame and impressed with ability in the outfield and at the plate. In the outfield, King showed to have good body control to the ball, taking good routes with a clean exchange. He consistently played through the ball, with all throws accurate and on a line to his target and a top throw of 75-mph. At the plate, the left handed hitter has a slightly open stance with a slightly uphill bat path. King was able to extend through contact, driving the ball to all fields. As he continues to progress, there is some power potential in his swing. 

Matthew McCauley, Vianney, Class of 2015:
The lanky 5-foot-10, 160-pound McCauley showed well in all facets of his game. In the outfield, McCauley showed good footwork and effort to the baseball while playing through the ball with short arm action. He recorded a top throw of 77-mph. Offensively; McCauley has a slightly crouched stance with a short stride. His swing remains level throughout with extension through contact and a one handed finish, hitting the ball gap to gap. 

Anthony Passante, MIF, CBC, Class of 2015:
Passante is a lanky 5-foot-8, 135-pound middle infielder. Offensively, the left handed hitting Passante has a slightly open stance with balance through his swing. He has good rhythm and takes a short path to the ball with extension through contact, working the middle part of the field. At shortstop, Passante shows to be a sure handed fielder with some range. He does a good job of setting up his throws, with accuracy across the diamond.

Erich Schark, OF, Francis Howell HS, Class of 2015:
The wiry 6-foot-2, 155-pound Schark showed natural instincts while moving well to the ball in the outfield with a clean exchange and playing through the ball on all throws. Offensively, Schark takes a long, uphill path to the ball with the ability to make consistent contact, effectively hitting to the left side of the field.

Ryan Sharkey, OF/1B, Ft. Zumwalt South, Class of 2015:
In the outfield, the wiry 6-foot-3, 180-pound Sharkey moves well to the ball, showing to be a consistent fielder. At first base, Sharkey has sure hands with a clean transfer and accurate throws to second base while turning double plays. At the plate, Sharkey has little wasted movement with a long, level swing the looks capable of producing pull side power.

Will Stonecipher, MIF, Lafayette HS, Class of 2016:
Stonecipher is a lanky 5-foot-9, 130-pound middle infielder. At the plate, Stonecipher has a crouched stance with a long stride. His swings were consistently level and he was able to spray the ball to all fields. At shortstop, Stonecipher showed to be a consistently sure handed fielder.

Nick Whitney, MIF, Webster Groves HS, Class of 2015:
Whitney is a small bodied 5-foot-4, 140-pound middle infielder who impressed with his all around effort. Whitney showed a good approach to the ball with soft, sure hands and a quick, short arm action. At the plate, Whitney showcased quick hands through the zone and a level, line drive producing swing with good bat speed.

 

Tanner Wright, MIF, Washington HS, Class of 2016:
Wright is an undersized 5-foot-8, 132-pound middle infielder. In the field, Wright showed to be a sure handed fielder with accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, Wright has a slightly uphill swing and was and to make consistent contact. As he continues to mature physically, Wright has the ability to see more consistency in his swing and velocity with his throws.
