Fall Prospepect Program: SAU Instant Analysis Session II

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

The Fall Prospect League kicked off yesterday, with the first location being Southern Arkansas University at Goodheart Field. The event saw 49 kids compete. Here is my instant analysis of the second session of the day.

Batting Practice

Orange Team

2017 C/OF Quinn Cherry: Cherry displayed fast bat speed and the ability to hit doubles power during batting practice. He starts from an athletic stance, with a smoot load and attacks the ball with a slight uphill bat path. He did work around a couple balls but for the most part stayed through the baseball through extension.

Maroon Team

2019 1B Noah Jolly: Jolly is a large frame left-handed hitter with an advanced swing. He attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and line drive swing. During batting practice he showed pull power, with ability to hit the ball the other way on a consistent basis.

In and Out

Orange Team

2017 MIF Chase Bryan: Bryan is an athletic middle infielder with soft hands and fluid footwork. He played through the baseball. He uses a fluid exchange and an accurate arm while fielding the baseball and turning the double play. He showed above average athleticism during the body control play.

2019 OF Landry Wilkerson: Wilkerson was impressive during in and out taking proper angles to the baseball. He played through every ball with fluid foot work. He showed a clean exchange with a strong accurate arm.

Game

The Orange team defeated the Maroon Team 6-4. The game looked like it was going to be a high scoring affair early as the orange team jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first four innings, taking advantage of some walks and errors. Mix that with some timely hits by 2017 Zachary Douglas and 2017 Chase Bryan and the game looked to be a run away.

The Maroon team settled in in the 4th scoring 4 runs when 2019 C Logan Easterling led off with a walk followed by back to back to back RBI doubles by 2019 Alex Cauley and 2019 Landry Wilkerson cut the score to 6-2. 2019 TJ Bale reached on a single, followed by a RBI groundball by 2019 Noah Jolly to make the score 6-3. The scoring was capped off when 2019 Brayden Sites hit an RBI single.

Pitching and defense prevailed the final 5 innings with the score ending 6-4. Pitchers that stood out on the day.

2017 RHP Michael Sheppard. He pitched an efficient 2 innings. He pitched from a low ¾ arm slot with a 79-81 mph with late run. He complimented the fastball with a Frisbee breaking ball and a changeup thrown with fastball arm speed. I would like to see him work off a stiff front side on a more consistent basis but overall a good day.

2019 Hayden Vines, looked solid early pitching off his fastball 79-82 mph with late run. He flashed his curveball 69-73 mph with 11/5 shape and sharp break. He worked from a ¾ arm slot with a quick clean arm. He would benefit from getting extension but a very projectable player.

2019 TJ Bale pitched an effective two innings working off his fastball 77-80 mph. He pitches from a H ¾ arm slow with a quick clean arm. He has the ability to throw strikes due to a repeatable delivery. He showed an advanced breaking ball at 66-68 mph.

Both teams will be back in action on the 27th of the month at Arkansas Tech University.
