Fall Review West: Infield Analysis

In mid-October, the PBR VA/DC staff hosted the Fall Review West at James Madison University. The event featured players from four classes and all corners of the Commonwealth on a beautiful day in the Shenandoah Valley. Earlier this week we began our more detailed analysis from the event with a focus on the outfielders and catchers. Today we will look at the infielders and we will finish with the pitchers early next week. 

Canon Davies 3B Orange County 2019
Davies is 5-11 with a strong athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, some rhythm to his swing, some hip explosion and good balance to his swing. Short to ball, works uphill with extension through it, pull fly ball approach, exit velocity was 82. At third, clean feet, fields with a wider base and average hands. Clean transfer, plays through ball and gains ground to target. Throws from a higher three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, velocity was 80. 

Leighton Dunford 2B Fort Chiswell 2020
Dunford is 5-9 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Short leg kick stride, smooth load back with a wrap, some rhythm to swing. Good hips and some balance to his swing. Short to ball, slightly uphill swing path, pull preference, line drive swing works really well when working middle of field, exit velocity was 84. At short, gets behind ball and fields with a wide base and average hands. Quicker clean exchange, short arm action from a low three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 77.

Michael Grupe RHP/3B Loudoun Valley 2019
Grupe is 6-2 with a lankier athletic frame, he hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance. Short stride on line, short smooth load down and back, some rhythm to swing. Good hips and some balance to swing. Short path to ball, level too it, uphill extension through the ball, line drive swing, stays inside and works middle of field, exit velocity was 87. At third, good footwork, rounds ball and fields it with a wide base and soft hands. Plays through the ball to a quick clean exchange, short quick arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity was 86.

Brady Harris RHP/SS Auburn 2019
Harris is 6-0 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely as weight shift forward, some balance during swing. Short to ball, level line drive swing, good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 72. At short, gets behind ball, fields it in the middle of his framework. Works through the ball, clean transfer, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 77.

Jack Marshall 1B Miller School 2019
Marshall is 5-10 with an athletic frame and hits from the left side with a balanced athletic frame. Short stride on line, smooth short load back, slight wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to his swing. Slightly uphill swing path, pull fly ball approach with extension through the ball, exit velocity was 84. At first, gets behind the ball and fields with average hands. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 78. Ran a 4.56 home to first.

Chris Richmond 2B Blue Ridge School 2018
Richmond is 5-8 with a lanky frame, hits form the right side from an open athletic stance. Leg kick stride, smooth load back with slight wrap, hips get full rotation. Slightly uphill line drive swing, showed good approach working middle of the field, exit velocity was 70. At short, fields with a wider base. Works through his transfer to throw from a low three-quarter arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 65.

John Rosa SS Millbrook 2019
Rosa is 5-6 with a lanky frame, hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance. Strides on line, smooth load back, some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely, some balance to swing. Slightly uphill path, short to ball, pull preference, line drive swing that produces fly balls to pull side, exit velocity was 77. At short, active feet, fields with a wide base and average hands. Works through ball, clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, infield velocity was 77. Home to first was 4.66.

Jonathan Sedmak SS Loudoun Valley 2019
Sedmak is 6-0 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from a slightly open athletic stance. Short leg kick stride on line, short smooth load back, some rhythm to the swing. Explosive lower half and good balance to his swing. Short and quick to the ball, slightly uphill path, pull preference with extension through the ball, exit velocity was 86. At short, keeps feet moving, gets body behind the ball and fields with above average hands. Plays through the ball, quick clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 81.

Zach Stanko 3B Walsingham Academy 2019
Stanko is 6-2 with an athletic frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short stride leaves him open, smooth short load back with slight wrap, some rhythm to swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Short and quick to ball, works slightly uphill with extension through the ball, pull preference with some power potential, exit velocity was 89. At short, good footwork, fields ball with a good base and soft hands. Plays through the ball to a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, infield velocity was 85.
