Below, we recap the player analysis for prospects in the Class of 2016 at the Final Event of the Winter at Owens Community College on February 23rd.

Top Prospect

Jimmy Crabtree, RHP/OF, Utica HS, 2016

6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect with big time athletic frame. Big time arm that continues to get more polished as he matures. Long arm action with some quickness. Tends to pause at height of leg kick. Will only continue to get better as lower half improves. Sat 85-87 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sat at 66-69 mph with late 11/5 action. Third pitch is a 69-71 mph split-finger fastball with good tumble. Shows raw tools as a position player. Ran a 6.94 60 yard dash. From the outfield, he throws through a 3/4 arm slot. Reached a top velocity of 91 mph with carry to his throws. Has some accuracy issues. Corner outfield type as his footwork needs to improve. At the plate, he shows big time raw power. Starts with an open stance. Tends to bar in his load. Uphill path to the ball. Obvious pull power. Top exit velocity of 90 mph.

Aaron Benson, 2B/RHP, Detroit Country Day HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-10, 153-pound two-way prospect with thin, athletic frame. On the mound, he throws with some quickness through a ¾ arm slot. Uses short arm action. Regular effort to his delivery. Fastball shows arm side run at 78-79 mph. Breaking ball has late 11/5 action at 75-77 mph. Changeup is still developing. Tendency to slow down arm speed as it sits 75-75 mph. In the field, he throws through low ¾ to ¾ arm slot, which can affect his accuracy at times. Top velocity of 72 mph. Shows some athleticism in the field. At the late, he is an upper body type hitter. Minimal load with some wrapping. Partial use of his lower half. Uphill path to the ball. Top exit velocity of 76 mph off the tee. Ran a 7.34 60.

Adam Duncan, OF/RHP, Northwood HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-10, 182-pound prospect with strong, athletic frame. Ran impressive 6.88 60. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Accurate throw with top velocity of 76 mph. Average feet and hands. At the plate, he starts in a tall, slightly open stance. Minimal upper half load. Incorporates lower half. Raw power in his swing with slight uphill path. Choppy type rhythm. Top exit velocity of 71 mph off the tee.

Amani Godfrey, 2B/RHP, Dearborn Divine Child HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-10, 140-pound prospect with lanky, athletic frame. Long arm action through ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 76 mph across the infield. Some athleticism in his feet. Will be aided by shorter transfer. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance. Tendency to wrap in his load. Short stride with partial use of his lower half. Uphill path to the ball. Top exit velocity 72 mph. Ran a 7.28 60. On the mound, the righty does a good job of maximizing his body in his delivery. Throws through high ¾ arm slot with long, loose arm action. Repeatable delivery that requires some effort. Fastball sat 77-79 mph. Breaking ball had some sweeping action at 64-66 mph. Throws his changeup from a different slot than his fastball, but it shows some fading action at 64-66 mph. 

Andrew Wingo, SS/RHP, Teays Valley HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-1, 160-pound prospect with average, athletic frame. Uses long arm action through high ¾ arm slot in the field. Top velocity of 75 mph. Average hands and feet. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Minimal stride. Hands start high before his load. Short, level path. Will increase power as he creates consistent extension in his swing. Top exit velocity of 71 mph. Ran a 7.82 60. On the mound, he throws throw low ¾ to ¾ arm slot. Short arm action with average arm speed. Stays in line but tendency to open early. Four seam fastball sat 76-78 mph while two seam sat 78-79 mph. Breaking ball had gradual sweeping action at 70-71 mph while changeup was thrown near fastball arm speed at 71-74 mph.

Bradley Cain, C, Springfield HS (OH), 2016

5-foot-8, 145-pound catching prospect with average frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot from the crouch. Tendency to throw uphill. Top velocity of 65 mph. Average hands and feet. Pop times between 2.32 to 2.44. Room for improvement with added arm strength. At the plate, the left-handed hitter starts in an athletic stance. Choppy type rhythm. Rotational mechanics Short stride. Incorporates his lower half.  Power will increase as he achieves consistent extension in his swing. Top exit velocity of 63 mph. 

Branton Cummins, RHP/3B, Gahanna Lincoln HS (OH), 2016

6-foot, 185-pound prospect with average, athletic frame. Projects as a second base type. Shows some range. Long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 74 mph across the infield. Average hands feet. Will improve as he plays through the ball. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Short stride with balance in his swing. Line drive production. Hands work. Top exit velocity of 82 mph off the tee. Ran a 7.56 60. On the mound, he shows long, loose arm action. Regular effort to his delivery. Will be aided by incorporating more of his lower half. Fastball is straight at 77-78 mph. Breaking ball showed some depth at 66-67 mph. Changeup sits between 65-67 mph but lacks consistency in the zone.

Caleb Keck, RHP/OF, Rittman HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-3, 165-pound two-way prospect with lanky frame. Uses long arm action from the outfield through ¾ slot. Top velocity of 76 mph. Will be aided by playing through the baseball and maintaining momentum. At the plate, he starts in a tall stance. Lots of movement in his swing. Uses toe tap and long stride. Choppy type rhythm with slight uphill path. Top exit velocity of 71 mph. Ran a 7.52 60. On the mound, he throws with long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Regular effort. Fastball has some run at 72-75 mph. Breaking ball showed late 11/5 action at 58-62 mph. Tendency to slow down arm speed on his changeup, which was down in the zone at 58-61 mph.

Camden Clark, SS/RHP, Bath HS (OH), 2016

6-foot, 165-pound prospect athletic frame. On the mound, he shows a live arm with long, loose arm action. Big leg kick to his delivery with some deception. Fastball sat at 79-82 mph with straight action.  More to come as he improves direction and improves use of his lower half. Breaking ball showed gradual action at 67-71 mph and changeup showed some cutting action at 65-68 mph. Also uses a 58-60 mph knuckle ball with some tumble. Has a chance on the mound if he continues to develop. As an infielder, he showed a top velocity of 78 mph across the infield. Short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Accurate throws with some carry. Tendency to wind up. Will only get better as he creates angles and plays through the ball. At the plate, he starts from a crouch. Tendency to bar in his load. Long stride, which creates some extra head movement in his swing. Line drive production. Top exit velocity of 77 mph. Ran a 7.59 60.

Chandler Stillings, LHP, Findlay HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-2, 184-pound prospect with tall, athletic frame. Long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Regular effort to his delivery. Fastball sat 77-79 mph. Breaking ball shows good depth when he stays on top of it. 10/4 action down in the zone at 60-64 mph. Changeup was thrown near fastball arm speed. Showed straight action at 69-71 mph.

Conor Crotty, SS/RHP, Columbus St. Francis DeSales HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-1, 165-pound prospect with athletic frame. Projects best as a pitcher at this early stage. Live arm on the mound. Throws throw ¾ arm slot. Regular effort to his delivery. Good hip lead, but can stay closed longer. Fastball sat 80-84 mph with straight action. Relies on a changeup as his only secondary pitch. Tendency to slow down his arm action a bit on the pitch, but it shows arm side run at 72-75 mph. In the field, he has a tendency to play from his heels. More of a third base type at this stage. Shows some softness in his hands. Top velocity of 79 mph across the infield. At the plate, he starts in a crouch with his weight heavy on his backside. Tendency to bar in his load and gets around the baseball. Uphill path. Top exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 7.29 60.

Deylen Miley, SS/RHP, Bryan HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-2, 160-pound prospect with tall, athletic frame. Legit two-way prospect. In the field, he shows natural actions for left side of the infield. Uses short arm action with excellent arm strength from different angles. reached a top velocity of 80 mph with carry. Footwork is fluid as he creates angles. At the plate, the right-handed hitter uses a leg kick to initiate his lower half. Tendency to dive a bit. Quick hands through the zone (top exit velocity of 87 mph). Solid contact with pull power in his swing. Fluid rhythm but room to get better with improved balance and use of his lower half. Ran a 7.31 60. On the mound, he shows future potential with long, loose arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Regular effort to his delivery with some deception. Fastball sat 81-83 mph while breaking ball showed late 11/5 action at 64-65 mph. Changeup sat between 74-76 mph.

Drew DeVine, SS, Marshall HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-11, 148-pound infield prospect with athletic frame. Showed good feel for middle infield position. Footwork is fluid. Creates angles and shows athleticism. Uses short arm action with a quick transfer. Reached a top velocity of 80 mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts in an athletic, open stance. Uses a short stride with good use of his lower half. Hands work well through the zone with fluid rhythm to his swing. Top exit velocity of 81 mph arm strength. Ran a 7.47 60. 

Evan Echols, 3B, University HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-6, 205-pound infield prospect. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 66 mph. Shows some ranged to his glove side and some softness in his hands. At the plate, the right-handed hitter tends to bar in his load. Incorporates his lower half. Uphill path to the ball. Pull tendencies in his swing. Top exit velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 8.54 60.

Hunter Carson, RHP, Otsego HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-1, 155-pound pitching prospect. Continues to position himself as one of the top arms in his class out of northwest Ohio. Throws through ¾ arm slot. Some effort to his delivery. Showed command of a 80-83 mph fastball down in the zone. Breaking ball has sharp 11.5 action at 66-68 mph. Also uses a 76-78 mph cutter. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed. Good command down in the zone at 70-74 mph.

Jackson Tedder, LHP/OF, Beavercreek HS, 2016

6-foot, 165-pound southpaw has quietly emerged as one of the top southpaws to come on our radar this winter. Throws with some quickness through 3/4 arm slot with long, loose arm action. Will be exciting to see him continue to make jumps over the next 6-18 months. Delivery is repeatable. Actions just look easy and natural. Fastball shows good run at 80-81 mph. Breaking ball has sharp, two-plane action at 71-74 mph. Also demonstrated command of a 73-76 mph changeup thrown near fastball arm speed. Definite follow. Projects as a left-handed pitcher, but also showed potential as a position player. Ran a 7.27 60 yard dash. Good feel for the outfield position with top velocity of 86 mph. Good carry to his throws. Still has some work to do at the plate. Athletic stance. Long stride. Back half tends to collapse a bit in his swing. Short, level path with top exit velocity of 79 mph off the tee. 

Joshua Beck, C/1B, Whiteford Agricultural HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-11, 190-pound catching prospect. Athletic, solid frame. Throws with short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 73 mph. Some carry to his throws. Pop times between 2.06 to 2.20. Needs to improve footwork direction. At the plate, he starts from a closed stance. Tendency to lose ground in his stride. Baring action to his front arm. Minimal load. Slight uphill path. Some quickness in his hands. Top exit velocity of 83 mph. Ran a 8.4 60. 

Kegan O'Brien, MIF/RHP, Bedford HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-5, 134-pound middle infield prospect. Projects best as a second baseman at this stage. Uses short arm action with some quickness to his exchange. Fluid footwork and plays with a rhythm to his actions. Top velocity of 77 mph across the infield. Switch hitter at the plate. Balanced, athletic stance from both sides. Short, slight uphill path. Contact hitter with line drive production. More pop from the right side. Really incorporates his lower half. Interesting prospect to follow as he physically develops. On the mound, the righty throws through ¾ arm slot with some quickness. Fastball sat 79-82 mph. Delivery requires some effort. Breaking ball is thrown near fastball arm speed with 10/4 action at 68-69 mph. Changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed. Locates well down in the zone. Changeup sat at 69-70 mph. 

Kevin Smith, OF/LHP, University HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-10, 205-pound prospect. Projects best as a pitcher at this stage. Throws with long arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Some quickness to his arm speed. Regular effort. Fastball is located for strikes at 78-80 mph. Breaking ball has minimal depth at 70-73 mph. Changeup is thrown for strikes at 73-74 mph. Tendency to slow down his arm speed, but shows some arm side fade. Also has a 70-71 mph cutter. In the outfield, he projects as a corner type. Potential shift to first base. Top exit velocity of 76 mph with accurate to his throws. Average hands and feet. At the plate, he starts in an open stance. Long stride. Tendency to bar in his load. Obvious quickness in his hands. Path gets a it long. Pull power in his swing. Top exit velocity of 84 mph. Ran a 7.75 60.

Layne Schnitz-Paxton, RHP, Napoleon HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed prospect. Throws through 3/4 arm slot with quick arm action. Delivery requires some effort. Fastball sat 83-85 mph and jumped up to 87 mph with good late life. Breaking ball showed late 11/5 action and is thrown near fastball arm speed at 69-71 mph. Still developing command of 75-77 mph changeup. Big time prospect that looks to be the next DI arm out of Napoleon.

Mason Sherrill, LHP/OF, Bellbrook HS (OH), 2016

5-foot-9, 140-pound two-way prospect. Average, athletic frame. From the outfield, he shows good feel. Short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 74 mph. Plays through the baseball. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Short stride. Incorporates his lower half. Short path to the ball. Inside/out tendencies to his swing. Top exit velocity of 82 mph. Ran a 7.59 60. On the mound, he throws with average arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. Smooth rhythm. Good direction and repeatable. Easy effort to his delivery. Jumped up to 80 mph but sat at 77-78 mph with straight action. Breaking ball showed gradual action at 65-67 mph. Changeup is still developing at 69-70 mph. Knuckle ball sat at 60-62 mph.

Mateo Perez, RHP, John F. Kennedy HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-11, 160-pound prospect with thin, athletic frame. Uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot. Clean mechanics with repeatable delivery. Big leg kick to his delivery. Will improve with more hip lead. Fastball shows slight arm side run at 75-78 mph. Breaking ball shows gradual 11/5 action at 65-66 mph while changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed at 68-72 mph. Some late life to the pitch.

Peyton Ley, 3B/OF/RHP, Granville HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect with strong, athletic frame. In the infield, he uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Average hands. Tendency to play from his heels. Top velocity of 72 mph across the infield. Still developing feel as an outfielder. Top velocity of 77 mph. Will improve as he plays through the ball and maintains momentum. At the plate, he uses a short stride. Incorporates lower half. A bit stiff, but hands work with some quickness through the zone. Raw power in his swing with slight uphill path. Top exit velocity of 88 mph. Ran a 7.56 60. On the mound, he throws through ¾ arm slot. Some effort to his delivery. Fastball sat 73-74 mph with straight action. Breaking ball shows gradual break at 61-62 mph. Tends to push his changeup a bit at 60-63 mph.

Spencer Yankle, C/SS, Olentangy Liberty HS (OH), 2016

5-foot-10, 170-pound catching prospect with athletic frame. Uses short arm action through high ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 74 mph from the crouch. Pop times between 2.22 to 2.25. Room for improvement with footwork and keeping front side closed. At the plate, he starts in a tall, open stance. Upper body type hitter. Uses a leg kick with a short stride. Still has more to come from lower half. Short path to the ball. Line drive production. Top exit velocity of 81 mph. Ran a 7.53 60.

Tony Lind, 3B, Gahanna Lincoln HS (OH), 2016

6-foot, 175-pound infield prospect with strong, athletic frame. Best tool is his bat. Left-handed hitter starts with a balanced stance. Simple, repeatable swing. Maintains balance and head is quiet. Uses a short stride. Good use of his lower half. Some quickness in his hands with slight uphill path. Some pull power in his swing. Top exit velocity of 83 mph off the tee. In the field, he uses short arm action through ¾ arm slot. Top velocity of 70 mph. Needs to continue developing arm strength and refine footwork. Ran a 7.25 60.

Tristin Faunce, RHP, Toledo Central Catholic HS (OH), 2016

5-foot-11, 145-pound prospect with small, athletic frame. Plenty of room for physical development. Throws through 3/4 arm slot with short arm action. Tends to land closed and throw across his body. Smooth rhythm to his delivery. Fastball sat 80-83 mph with good arm side run. Good command of a 70-73 mph slider with sharp 10/4 action. Changeup sits 74-77 mph but has tendency to slow down his arm action on the pitch. 

Will Edgerton, RHP, Shaker Heights HS (OH), 2016

6-foot-4, 225-pound prospect with big, physical frame. Throws through ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. Short arm action. Fastball was located in the zone at 75-79 mph. Straight action to the pitch. Breaking ball sat at 63-64 mph with gradual 11/5 action. Tendency to slow down his arm speed with the pitch. Changeup sat at 68-70 mph with straight action. Thrown near fastball arm speed. 

Xavier Jefferson, OF, Southfield-Lathrup HS (MI), 2016

5-foot-8, 149-pound two-way prospect with athletic frame. Ran a 7.18 60. Showed good feel from the outfield position. Accurate throws with a top velocity of 80 mph. Some softness in his hands and fluid footwork. Plays through the ball. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance. Uses a leg kick to initiate his lower half. Slight uphill path. Power will come as he develops physically.
